folks like you who make
it worthwhile for DPP to bastardize Highlander in
perpetuity.>>
My, my. Someone's awfully bitter at the world. I
hope you realise I called the T-Bird a Mustang just so
you'd have something to bitch about. It's an easy
job, especially for a brain dead sycophant, but
someone's got to do it.

Isn't this thread to say the POSITIVE things we like? Just ignore
the bitter and twisted people who have nothing better to do than
bring others down. That's what I do; it's rather liberating!
Ten things I like about Adrian Paul
1. His rather bad Russian accent
2. He was in Beauty and the Beast
3. His muscles
4. His cool hair (even short, his hair is cool)
5. He looks great in a kilt
6. Those slashy pictures from that movie that someone posted on
the Net
7. His use of a sword
8. His BVDs
9. That white terry robe we weren't supposed to know about
10. His nice butt. :)

1. Methos. Ditto. Love the ROG.
2. The flashbacks. Love the history.
3. Richie and Tessa and the first season and a half -- I loved the family
feeling to the show back then.
4. The Horsemen. What a shocker those episodes were. I couldn't wait for
the 2nd half.
5. Comes A Horseman & Revelations 6:8. My two most
favourite epsiodes of all time -- Mine too. Ditto.
6. The costumes. They did a great job. Like the flashbacks, everything just
felt and looked so "right."
7. So many great guest stars and recurring characters -- Fitz and Amanda
come right to mind.
8. Joe Dawson and the Watchers
9. Joe and his guitar and singing!
10. Paris!

1. The whole Immortal myth (even with the inconsistencies)
2. Duncan MacLeod, a perfect hero...because he's flawed, and he grows.
3. Methos. One of the most original character concepts ever on a TV screen.
4. The scripts. When they were bad, they were very, very bad, but when they
were good, they were a joy.
5. CaH/Rev: Too bad *this* wasn't made into the 4th HIGHLANDER theatrical
movie.
6. The history lesson we got with our weekly dose of flashbacks.
7. Great guest characters and performers.
8. Joe, his Watchers and his music.
9. Commuting between Paris and Vancouver, twice a year.
10. The swordplay and the quickenings, each seeking to do themselves one
better, each week.

Ten things I enjoy about HL (and AP and PW):
10. Reenactments -- some are kitchy and some are beautiful, but all are witty
9. By play -- my fav is when Duncan paints Methos' nose
8. Holes in the plot -- because that's where fans have the most fun, discussion list-wise and
fanfic-wise.
7. Strange economic arrangements by production people -- because that lets us notice when the
barge moves from behind Notre Dame to the Effle Tower
6. Fans visiting the set -- I LOVE travel fan writing!
5. When AP looks over his glasses at the "American Bookstore" -- too bad he chastized me for
wearing a pin a fan made of it because it was not one he got any residuals (right word?) for!
4. The "American Bookstore" -- actually the historic Shakespeare and Company with its literary
and gay histories
3. The Duncan/Richie/Methos/Dawson team -- I adore it when they make all these jokes about
other episodes and you get the feeling they are having a good time as actors
2. Moments with great women with swords -- I love that fans and production folks all discovered
the pleasure of putting interesting women into everything -- funny if silly ones like Rebecca and
Amanda hassling Duncan, and the awesome ones like Cassandra and (oh dear, what's her name,
I'm having a senior moment, the one Methos messed over) well, YOU all know everything!
1. Fans -- online, writing fanfic, at cons, here with you all, the sharp wits with bitter and lovely
words and the generous souls who open things up for others -- the lurkers too, esp. ones who
can write as if putting together a story board....
Next time though I want to do a list for Alien Nation, which just came out on DVD and is weirdly
wonderful, amazing and awful and astonishing in retrospect.
(Salutes flag wavers, newbies, geezers, scholars, gamers and whoever else I don't know how to
name but love),

Ten things I love about Alien Nation
1. Gary Graham.
2. "She has Susan's spots."
3. Cathy's "old photographs".
4. Enormous plot holes that you don't even care about!
5. Sikes not opening that door *sniff*.
6. Humming. :)
7. "We are stardust... scattered, drifting, yet united by one voice."
8. The first novel, The Day of Descent
9. Georgeisms. ("I can't just sit around the hospital with Moby Dick
in my hand! Or whatever!" "Don't you look like what the cat dragon ate.")
10. Matt and Cathy. Awwww... "Cathy, you are so beautiful. I love you."
- Marina. (Name a fandom, I can make a list!)

Nope--just about Highlander, which really is not much of a blip, world-wise.
I'm just tired of the franchise screwing up, after following the brilliance
of the series w/ HL:TS season sux, Raven, that really bad online cartoon,
Endgame, & all the weird projects they have threatened us w/ (remember
Highlander: The Opera?). Did I forget any DPP atrocity? That I could BE so
lucky....

No, you really didn't know the difference. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Ditto. (Thanks, Marina. <g>)
The 10 top things I enjoy enormously about Highlander:
1. The fandom.
I have yet to find a more intelligent, thought-provoking, witty, diverse,
passionate and crazy group of people than Highlander fans. They have utterly
spoiled me, and any other fandom that has come along with the promise of
filling that void in my life has proven to be mere Hershey's Kisses compared
to my beloved Godiva Grande Mints.
2. Vancouver.
The city that makes anything filmed there worth watching: the mountains, the
coast, the architecture, the vibrant mix of cityscapes and parks. In person,
the city is even more wonderful: the people, lifestyle, food, shopping. Oh,
how I miss that place.
3. Mario Azzopardi and all he did for me and other fans who enjoy learning
about the workings of the series set.
4. Highlander. The movie. There can be only one.
5. The Watchers: the most morally bankrupt organization with the most
incomprehensible purpose for existing or joining, and yet it can boast the
membership of one Joe Dawson, the sweetest and coolest guy you could ever
meet. So what makes this organization tick? I love trying to figure it out.
6. The Gathering: the episode that hooked me the first time it aired.
Richie: "You know what? You should call the police. In fact, I tell you
what, I'll call them myself. Got a phone?"
"I know. I'm fast. All my teachers said so. Fast, but lazy. My lips are
sealed. Word of honor. Besides, who'd I tell, ya know?"
"Oh man, these guys should sell tickets."
... Um, basically all of Richie's lines. :)
Connor: "I'm, uh, a friend of Duncan's from the old neighborhood."
"End of conversation."
"What about the boy? He'll need watching."
Tessa: "Please, don't say anything in front of the lady. Let me just go into
the next room and crochet while you have your cigars and brandy and talk
about beheadings."
Duncan: "Good skin runs in my family, there's nothing I can do about it."
7. Queen's "Who Wants to Live Forever" and "Princes of the Universe", plus
Kansas's "Dust in the Wind" (though I have to try really hard to not think
of how the commercial ruined it)
8. Sandra McDonald's magnificent fanfic.
Shameless plug: She's sold her first novel to Tor Books, to be released in
2007, as well as a sequel!
9. Pre-Raven implied canon regarding pre-immies, violent death, and *only*
violent death.
10. Denial. I'll take Richie's promise in "End of Innocence" that "it won't
be so easy next time" over the ridiculous, Big Red Evil Whatever plot device
that was the downfall of Highlander canon.
- Janine (It takes far more than "Headless Richie!!!!!" taunts to draw me
out of lurkdom.)(Fabulous discussion on religion, btw. *Great* rant.)(Can't
help with HIGHLA-L archives pre-1995 - wasn't here, then - but I've got all
the digests for April and May of 2005.)(Methinks DEBBIE gets her list
messages in digest form, as I do, where subject headings remain unnoticed
until one gets a twice-a-year hankering out of boredom to see what the list
has been up to and finally opens up a few of them that have been amassing in
one's HIGHLA-L folder.)(615 digests; 409 of them unread)(I'm definitely a
masochist, but I think I promised someone I wouldn't leave - probably
Marina.)(Just bought all 5 seasons plus that extra one on DVD from Sam's
Club for $36 each.)(You think there's any hope of selling off my VHS sets?)

Only 10 things..<G>
In just about every episode there is something I like so that's a lot.
My favourite thing about Highlander though is easy - it's the friends I
have made, people who have stuck by me through some bad times, who have
been there to share the joy and the sorrows. But not just the
friends, the people I've met along the way have been pretty great too,
even if I haven't kept in touch, I still think of all of all of you and
it always brings a smile to my face.

Old geezer (or is that redundant) uncloaking ...
Some of my favorite things about Highlander:
Duncan. Duh
Tessa. I love the fact that Duncan and Tessa were in a committed
relationship, and that Duncan was still able to be an "action hero". I also
liked that Tessa didn't just sit around and knit (or crochet) and that when
she got in trouble, she fought back with the tolls she had available.
Methos. What a cool character, and Peter Wingfield was absolutely wonderful
casting.
Joe. Way cool guy. Made me appreciate his Blues, and I don't like jazz.
The moral dilemmas. When has an old friend crossed the line and become bad
or evil? When is an old promise redeemable and when is the favor asked too
much?
The willingness of Duncan to learn about other cultures and accept them. I'm
thinking of Samurai and Wrath of Khali and May Ling, etc.
Amanda. She was a great character for making Duncan laugh and getting him in
trouble. I never thought she was strong enough to be the lead in her own
series, but she was a great sidekick.
Rebecca. Awesome strong lady, except for the stupid way she died for her
idiot husband.
The great bad guys like Horton and Luther.
The fact that the characters grew and changed.
