You're definitely allowed to play, Wendy. In fact, I fully expected you to.

It's quite true that my story no longer matters, much like 99% of Highlander
no longer matters. But we're still here, aren't we? Talking about characters
and episodes that existed 7 to 13 years ago. And, gee, those aren't even
real people, and yet they have *some* consequence to us, no?

Anyway, I don't want to sound defensive, 'cause I don't consider it a
"mistake" to comment any way you like about my story. It was just offered up
for what it's worth: pathetic, stupid, insightful, interesting.... makes no
difference to me. It's a piece of fandom history. I figured that if CNN can
look back a decade, then perhaps some folks here might be open to an
in-depth non-fiction Highlander story. It's nice to know that you not only
took the time to read my story, but to craft a creative come-back. :)

Oh dear! JoAnne's emails are getting through to me. My comcast email is not
      known to bounce.

Well, of course, it was the "after" stuff that wasn't any fun. The Other
Janine definitely had an adventure of a lifetime until she got stabbed in
the back. "The Goddess" was someone that I thought was a friend. She came to
my house on a monthly basis for a while in order to print out her fanzine on
my computer. I had bought her a "Mountie" pen (an "in" joke) from the "dojo"
gift shop in Gastown, plus I was going to give her one of the crew's "sides"
(mini script) that had been left as trash on the set at the end of the day.
      I still have them.

      > I'm truly sorry that some people can be so cruel with no reason. But if it
      > helps any at all, I thought your HL report was a wonderful gift to all of us.

Actually, (and I know this sounds really sappy) all the comments that I got
like this since I first posted the report on this list really did help. My
whole motivation for going to the set was for the purpose of writing a
report that would allow other folks like me (who knew nothing about film
production) to better visualize how a tv episode is made. The report was
very painful to write, but thanks to Ken Gord's August 22nd phone call and
relocating to this list in September, I was finally able to derive pleasure
from being the Other Janine's ghost-writer.

I do realize how "rather warped" this sounds. But this wasn't your
run-of-the-mill cyber-flame. A phone call was made to the production office
while Kathi and I were still on the set. Words got said that became the
basis for the post that ripped my reputation to threads. When Kathi and I
stopped off at the office the next day to deliver the box of chocolate
before leaving for the airport, we said the usual "Hi, how are you?" to
Cindy, and she answered, "I've had better days." The other two assistants in
the office stared at us. We took our plane home feeling like dirt. That's
the emotion that is forever tied to whatever I felt during the set visit.
So, in order to "move on" (and I have), I buried both sets of feelings and
disassociated myself from everything between July 27th to August 22nd. What
is left is merely the Janine who wanted to write the best set report ever -
and I apparently succeeded in that. It means a lot to me that I was able to
be the "medium" through which Mario was able to reach out and touch fans
back home and bring them some pleasure.

      >> But I followed Mario's suggestion that I take up writing and had a very nice

      >
      >
      > I'm glad that you had a good experience when you wrote "Deadly Secrets."

The catharsis, itself, wasn't exactly *good* except in the sense of a "good
cry." I wrote a forgettable fanfic before this one, but "Deadly Secrets" is
where I channeled the emotional baggage from the set visit fallout and
ultimately got my psychological relief. So just as there's a sub-text to the
set report, there is also a sub-text in this fanfic. You can find it in the
      Seventh Dimension archive
      <http://www.seventh-dimension.org/stories/Shahinian/DeadlySecrets.txt>.

      > coolness!

To this day, I feel as though I let Mario down. He invited me to the
Stargate set in 1997, so I brought Sandra McDonald with me and we got to see
a day of "Bloodlines" filmed. But the experience of being on the set of a
series that hadn't even aired yet was very different from being on the
Highlander set, so I didn't know how to go about writing a set report. When
I got home, there wasn't an available fandom to which I could write. I
signed up for Showtime specifically for Stargate and tried to track down a
fandom once the show started, but being on a paid cable channel, I never
found a list like this one in time to write anything decent. And, really,
anything I could have written would have been very technical sounding, as I
didn't get to interact with the cast and crew as I did on the Highlander
set. So since I didn't fulfill my end of the deal, I haven't been in touch
with Mario since. I kept thinking I'd find an audience soon... soon. And
then it felt too late to explain things to him. :(

Sandra and I got our picture taken with Mario in front of the Stargate -
that was definite coolness! And I picked up a few "pebbles" of styrofoam
rock from a set that was used in the previous episode. :)

I came late to HL fandom around 1996-97, and your site with its splendid report and
photos was one of my first online "discoveries". I was completely unaware of the
personal/political/emotional quagmire, and it amazes me that your report was, and
is, so untainted by any of the ugliness. You have my sincere admiration, and my
      thanks.

I revisit your site once or twice a year, purely to remember the great pleasure and
the community that HL fandom used to be. I hope you leave it up forever.
