Heidi continues savaging fanfic in her own way (not that I object, of
course)--

No, it was pretty funny as it was.

Well, the Raven dvd set is due out this summer, I think. Talk about
screwing up the HL universe, though....
Fact is--Highlander's dead. Even if the universe IS vicious enough ever to
allow DPP to fulfill any of their threats to squirt out anything else w/ HL
in the title.

It was a rerun. He's certainly gotten big & scary the past few years. That
Run for Your Life "practice" swordfight he & AP hammered out was a thing of
beauty, though.
As for HL alums that just won't fade away, I keep seeing Lochlyn Munro (the
doomed Tim Ramsey in Under Color of Authority's flashback). He's shown up
in meaty roles in a half dozen prime-time shows in the past couple
months--Eyes, NCIS, W/O a Trace, CSI Miami, etc. Still looking very young &
like a good-natured loser. Maybe AP should call him up & beg for an intro
to his agent....
Nina (idly wondering what Raven's worst sin was) (sanitizing Amanda)
(reusing series footage) (no chemistry between the stars) (recycling major
series guest stars & even a recurring actor in DIFFERENT roles) (largely
ignoring 800 years of flashback potential) (boring me) (no AP) (screwing w/
pre-Immie canon) (too much bleach--too little hair) (don't have time to make
a complete list--probably NO ONE has that kind of time....)

I made no judgements on fanfic in general, I just pointed out
the aspects I wasn't interested in for my own reading.
Well, the Raven dvd set is due out this summer, I think.
Since I never liked Amanada (or EG) on HL, I wasn't very fond
of Raven. So that's a DVD set I didn't pay any attention to.
(I vaguely remember PaulJ being ok as Nick though.)
>Btw, for the `Carl Robinson' fans on the list, Bruce A Young..

Yea, even after I realized it was him it still took a bit to get
used to it since I hadn't seen him in anything for quite awhile.
That Run for Your Life "practice" swordfight he & AP hammered
out was a thing of beauty, though.
I was watching `The Gathering' on the weekend and during the
practice fights with Duncan and Connor I was thinking it was
a shame there weren't more `fun' fights in the series. It
wasn't that often we got to see Duncan fighting with someone
that was just practice. That was one reason why I thought it
would have been interesting if it had been `Jimmy Sang'(Revenge
Of The Sword) rather then `Charlie' who ran the Dojo. Since
I think Dustin Nguyen knew martial arts and how to handle a
sword it would given them chances for Duncan to practice both
with someone who could fight.
Nina (idly wondering what Raven's worst sin was) [..] (recycling
major series guest stars & even a recurring actor in DIFFERENT
roles)
Were there many recycled? I remember Valentine Pelka of course,
and the guy who played Charlie on HL.
(too much bleach--too little hair)
Also known as the `albino marine' look.
(don't have time to make a complete list--probably NO ONE has
that kind of time....)
There's the big one of hiring an actress who seems to have no
skill at all with a sword and looks like she never took a lesson.
Something that seems pretty sillly given the importance of
sword fights in the Highlander realm. From what I remember
they eventualy hired a fight double for her, and then had to
change they way they filmed fights to try to hide the fact it
was very obviously a double.

Nina idles:

Oh my god...do we have to pick just one? Sins of commission, sins of
omission, venal sins, cardinal sins, sins of every ilk.
> (sanitizing Amanda)
Just plain *using* Amanda was a sin. Amanda was an OK character in small
doses. EG and AP had obvious chemistry and it could be fun to watch-
until the chemistry got so complete that they stopped being Amanda and
Duncan and became Adrian and Elizabeth. I think this transformation was
completed in MNO.
If they insisted on using Amanda, then they should have let her *be*
Amanda. Let her sleep around, let her use men for her own gain, let her
thieve and let her run away whenever swords were drawn. It might (mind
you, I said *might*) have been fun to see how straight-laced Nick dealt
with an Immortal thief who lived by the code of "I love myself more each
passing year". Instead of co-opting her into the police/security
business, she could have co-opted him into the Immortal criminal
underworld.
> (no chemistry between the stars)
I didn't realize until later that they -the actors- hated each other so
much. I think that the chemistry could have been faked if the scripts
had been better. TPTB should have tossed them into a torrid love affair
right off the bat instead of playing "will they-won't they" as if they
had many seasons to decide. My rule is "Let the pretty people rattle the
headboard"
> (recycling major series guest stars & even a recurring actor in

> roles)
This used to gall me on HL:TS and it was worse on Raven with inferior
writing.
> (largely ignoring 800 years of flashback potential)
Too expensive...plus the problems of showing their star in a "bad" light
since we know that she must have been sponging off various men for most
of her existence. They kept it relatively modern so that she could be a
"free" independent woman instead of a French whore :-)
>(boring me)
Well, they probably didn't think you were watching
>(no AP)
There is no forgiveness on this point. PTB be damned. You can't have a
show about Amanda and not reference Duncan.
>(screwing w/ pre-Immie canon)
Especially doing it on the last episode so that Duncan couldn't ride in
later and say "Amanda, you git, you didn't need to kill him!"
> (too much bleach--too little hair)
Oh noooooooooooooooo..I had almost blocked that out of my memory. Why oh
why oh why did they do that? Ugly, ugly, ugly!!!!!
> (don't
> have time to make
> a complete list--probably NO ONE has that kind of time....)
No, but you hit the high (low) points pretty well.
Wendy (Wait...you forgot Lucy.) (Was that her name?)( I hated Lucy.)(
There is no way in hell Amanda of HL:TS would have spent 40 years with
that woman!)

This thread is truly worriesome. I find myself in total agreement with BOTH
