Subject: Fanfic suggestions?
It's been a long time since I've read any fanfic but I figured I'd
give it a try again. So does anyone have any suggestions for `good'
fanfic, either authors or specific stories? I'd be interested in
ones where Duncan is the main character. It's ok if Methos, Tessa,
Joe or Richie are part of the story, as long as they're not the
`lead character'. I'm not interested in ones that Amanda, Charlie
or Anne are in, or ones that are set in the future.
I'm only interested in stories that stick to canon, so Methos is
still the oldest Immortal, there are no vampires or other super-
natural creatures, Duncan was never married (forget Endgame and
Ahirman if you haven't already tried), Duncan, Methos and Richie
only date women, Immortals don't have special abilities or powers
we've never seen before. There are things I've seen in multiple
fanfics that I thought were too much out of character or just
didn't fit. (I'm not saying they're all bad, they're just too
far from `Highlander' for me to be interested in them.) Things
like Duncan or the others telling someone they're Immortal for
no reason, Methos taking on a student, or telling other Immortals
who he really is for no reason, Duncan meeting someone and suddenly
being more in love with them then anyone he ever knew, Duncan,
Methos or Richie fighting each other over a woman, ancient female
Immortals who were worshipped as goddesses and used to be involved
with Methos and are now out for revenge, someone figuring out that
Adam is actually Methos for no reason, etc. So given all that are
there any stories some of you suggest? Thanks.

I probably should have qualified some a bit more then I did.
the future
As in more then a few decades from now. I've seen too many
stories that had the Immortals we know running around with
Phaser-like weapons instead of swords, or chasing each other
in space ships or turning up in crossovers with space based
sifi shows or on other planets. (and not just Zeist.)
Methos with a student
That should have been the `current' Adam Pierson version who
avoids fights and perfers to stay in the shadows for the most
part. While I could see Methos having maybe taken students in
the past, it really doesn't seem like something `Adam' would do.
Duncan falling in love too fast or too deeply
Not that so much as the assorted stories I've read where he
meets someone and after spending a few hours or less with them
he's more in love with them then anyone he's ever met. While
it wouldn't be a suprise for Richie, it's a jump that doesn't
fit for Duncan.
Duncan telling someone he's Immortal "without reason"
Another case of too many stories where he out of the blue tells
someone he barely knows he's Immortal, or something happens
and he gets hurt in front of someone. But instead of saying
`it's not that bad' and leaves as fast as he can, he'll tell
them he's Immortal and how to kill Immortals. And then when
Methos and Richie walk up he'll tell the person all about
them too. I guess in some cases the author needs the new
person to know about Immortals so they can get to the rest
of the story, but to me it seems out of character. Other
then the priest with the toy car collection, have we ever
seen Duncan (or the others) tell someone about Immortals
when there was no reason to? (and even the priest wasn't
told anything other then the word.)
old female Immortals
Old female Immortals in stories are ok, it's the ancient ones
who were worshiped as goddesses who are now out to get Methos
because he broke up with them thousands of years ago, and
are often Much older then him. It's just something that seems
to turn up in a suprising amount of stories by different authors.
It's just not a storyline I've found interesting.

Yea, I know it's a long shot, but it seemed worth a try. I
know some people like to write HL fanfic and expand on what
was in the series and from comments I've seen alot of it is
well written. So for those of you on the list who write
fanfic, I'm not saying anything against what you've written.
It's just not the type of fanfic I'm looking for. I guess
with the Season 6 DVD set now out and no new Euros or unaired
scenes waiting to be released, I've been in the mood for
some `new' Highlander. Anchor Bay did say they were going
to release the Best Of DVD set this year but other then maybe
some extra `Best Buy only' interviews, I doubt it will have any
extra footage that wasn't on the HL Store set.
Btw, for the `Carl Robinson' fans on the list, Bruce A Young
was on Cold Case a week or two ago. I didn't recognize him
at first, but you can't mistake his voice. I don't know if
it was a new episode or a rerun though.
