Is there a FAQ explaining the acronyms? I can't let my mind loose on
anything with an "F" in it.
DFW?

Ah well, looks like the Lisa I knew is gone. Nice to see you all again,
though!
I never imagined folks would remember so clearly some of the funnier
conversations had on the list.

That was during one of the wars. The MFWs (Methos Flag Wavers) tattooed
Arlene, a DFW (Duncan Flag Waver).

Hey Sandy
You guessed right I still tease her about it too.
She was furious but she went along with the joke a long time.

Subject: 2 x DVD season 2
I ordered Season 2 on DVD six months ago from the Highlander store. Despite
saying it had been shipped I saw nothing of it. So, I gave up and set my
helpful people to chase it up. Then I ordered it from Playusa.com, and it
arrived pretty much right away.
Their version, presumably the Anchor Bay one(?), is kinda cool. So far have
watched the little interview bits give wrong information and laugh about it,
seen a few fairly useless outtakes from Turnabout, and found theres no subtitles
and only English language.
That seems like such a gyp compared to Stargate DVDs. Stargate does
them right. Subtitles and languages and everything. Highlander not
even subtitles and I rather like subtitles and my brother pretty much
needs them.
Also the first disc has smudgy bits on that wont come off and a couple
places where the pic didnt work right.
Now about four days later the Highlander store finally comes through. Which
would suggest to me its the same thing on the same release date and they'd just
been lying about it being available, but the highlander store version is purple,
whereas the other one is kinda aqua blue. So maybe it was my helpful people
complaining that finally got the thing sent.
Differernt pictures on the boxes. aqua version promises 'Adrian Paul audio and
video commentary' although examination of the small print inside says its only
on disc three. Both say '22 episodes. Recently discovered Lost Scenes.' By
which I guess they mean the lame outtakes. Aqua box says 'producer and writer
interviews' whilst purple one says 'interviews'. I bet they both mean the same
thing- the little bits where Bill Panzer and David Abramowitz talk about the
episode. Inside the aqua box they call that 'episode by episode commentary'.
Commentary is when people talk over the whole episode on an extra sound track,
not when they say something whilst sitting around in a garden (sometimes an
incorrect something and then give us extra value for our money by spending the
rest of the 'interview' being corrected by the other guy). Both sets say
'character profiles. Watcher Chronicles.' Although the only profiles are the
chronicles, its all text with a little photo in the corner. 'Scripts.' Have a
disc all to themselves again. 'Photo Gallery.' I've seen on one disc and it
seems a fairly random collection of images, in no order I could figure. One pic
is of Michael Shanks sitting at a table with AP. I liked that one but it didnt
strike me as a classic Highlander moment. '5.1 Surround Sound' I would quibble
at least for the aqua version- yes, the option is there, but in order to hear
the talking rather than just the music I had to watch on ordinary stereo. And
it isnt the equipment, my brother is a fanatic and has home cinema the serious
way. Theres a sign on the living room door says 'DTS in this theater' and he
isnt kidding. So his system plays sound very well indeed, and yet I could hear
mostly music on the alleged 5.1 surround sound.
I was watching them round my brothers because he has a multi region DVD player
and I dont. So I cant immediately compare the quality on the purple discs
because I'd have to go across town and bribe him for use of his system again,
which usually only works when he at work all day anyway.
The purple set has a list of all the episodes with names for all the scenes. So
The Watchers scene 1 is Just a Regular Joe, and scene 2 is Sale on Spy Gear.
The aqua set just lists the episode names.
The aqua discs came with a competition (win a 64 T-bird. If you live in USA or
Canada), and a shiny medallion thingy with a hologram so it DM was struck by
lightning when you moved it. Cool. Also two $5 vouchers for the Highlander
store, pretty ones with pictures on.
The purple versions came with a catalog for the Highlander store, and one for
The Fast And The Furious. Which apparently is something about cars I've never
bothered to see. Inside there is one plain $5 voucher for the Highlander store
that expires at the end of 2003 and has no code number to say so presumably they
just take your word for it that you have a voucher. Also, a certificate of
authenticity that 'bestows upon you the exclusive right to possess : Season Two
on DVD'. Does that mean everyone else isnt allowed a copy only me? Or do they
have some unique definition of exclusive that the rest of us arent privy to?
Inside both sets is a little blurb about the season:
For Duncan MacLeod, Season Two is one filled with hope, heroics and heartache.
He for the first time meets his Watcher, Joe Dawson, and an indomitable
friendship is born. in a vicious dual he beheads Luther and effectively saves
the world by ending the evil Immortal's quest to piece together the mysterious
Methuselah Stone, the source of invulnerability. But tragedy strikes too, as
Duncan's one and only beloved Tessa is killed by a junkie's bullet.
Through it all the mystery of HIGHLANDER unfolds and deepens as his incredible
story leaps time and emotions to bring us further into the tortured world of the
Immortals. in the end, there can be only one.
Now is it just me or is this a really odd mix of too specific and spoilery, over
aggrandisement, and vague yet portentous tosh?
One thing that confuses me is why exactly there are two versions? In the hope
people will buy both?? I wouldnt on purpose. Soon as I figure out if theres an
actual quality difference one of these sets will be for sale. So far all I can
see is the packaging. Purple set has some pretty pictures. One of the pics on
the outside back cover of both is practically the exact same pic of Duncan, but
the version on the purple box chops his ponytail off and makes the top of his
hair flatter. Daft, revisionist hairstyling! Also the pics on the outer and
inner boxes dont line up so it looks like his sword is broken and his eye is all
wonky. On the aqua box on the outer box is Duncan with his sword, which ends at
the edge of the outer box so doesnt have to try and line up. The background
Duncan face lines up properly. And inside instead of same pic of Duncan theres
a pictures of Richie. When you first open the inner purple box you fold out a
big Quickening picture, somewhat spoiled by the fact theres a big wodge of black
in the middle but the pic is supposed to match up were it possible to put the
edges together without breaking the box. The aqua set puts the same pic all on
one side smaller, which works better.
Talking about pictures when you cant see them is boring and when you can see
them isnt needed so I'll stop. But keep this section in because I just typed it
all.
basically, received two sets, so they really do exist now. Be watching them
soon and shall compare. Dont expect many differences, could be surprised.

That was me. Who did the tattooing, anyway. It was "done to" Arlene
and posted on the DFW list, if I recall correctly.

Hi
Yes, I remember it was Arlene. I do keep in touch with her and I still tease
her about those times. If I was on the flag waver list I was more of a lurker
than a poster.

Ah, the good old days! There are a lot of new HL viewers over on a TV site I now frequent - www.televisionwithoutpity.com - and they've got running jokes going that are suspiciously like our old running jokes. They also buy ad banner space to keep the site going - it's funny to see them crop up.
So when I first checked in around March or April or May of 1994, we were discussing... um... well, it was after "The Darkness" but during the heady days when we were all wondering just what had happened to Richie and getting all het up making plans to meet at Gathering I in Denver.
And of course, Kip Guinn was much in evidence on the list. He is still missed.

LOL! I hadn't thought about that in ages! <bg> Arlene was still here
for a long time, but don't know if she's still subbed to this list.
