Whats? I've never heard that word before. And I'm
usually good at figuring out big words, too.

I can't afford a DVD player and even if I could, the
DVD's would be out of my range. So...I have to stick
with taping off TNN, cuts, annoying onscreen ads and
all. Wouldn't mind having them without the ads, but
I'll take what I can get.

My guess would be that there are two factors at work. First, the urge to get Season 1 *out* while there is still some hope that people will buy the darned things and 2) the probably lack of extra "stuff" available for Season 1. Do TV shows automatically keep "extra" footage after an episode is shot? Were people thinking "director's cut" or "DVD extra" in 1992? As for commentaries- yeah I guess some would be nice but, personally, I couldn't care less about what the art director thinks of a scene or how hard it was to find new locations to use in Vancouver. As for hearing the actors talk about episodes..I've heard them at conventions and they frequently have nothing of any import to say. It was a job..they said the lines..they started learning next week's lines.

      >original crop of fans die of old age before the series is fully available
      >on DVD? If they're gonna be bare-bones, then why the wait?

I think I read on alt.tv.highlander that the next sets will follow at a very reasonable pace. Donna (Gillian?)(I *do* know which is which but they were both posting about this) is going over the extra footage that is available with the intention of adding as much "new" stuff as possible. I don't remember anything about additional commentary. I do know they aren't "updating" the Watcher's Chronicles with "new" information about what has happened to the Immortals since last we saw them - as the Series is a complete work that shouldn't be meddled with. They think (rightly, I think) that making up new events is akin to fanfic and is best left to fans (if such things much be written at all)(And *no* I do not want to start another round of "Fanfic is Evil" versus "Fanfic is A God Given Right")(We just did that.)(Move along....move along)

It will be interesting to see what they do with the later seasons that had fewer episode. In the past, with the VHS sets, they padded the set with the blooper reel or "making of" footage. But they have already used all of that in the Season One dvds. I certainly hope they lower the price on the sets that have fewer discs.

I'm trying not to but the blasted things but my resistance to Highlander merchandise has always been weak.

Wendy(How is the price of dvd sets set anyway?)(Star Trek Deep Space 9 sets cost $100.)("Buffy sets cost $50)(Babylon 5 sets cost $75.)(Friends cost $30.)(All for 22 episodes and a few extras.)(Why???)

I agree; it would be nice if they lowered the price or possibly
combined a couple seasons. That's probably unlikely, but you never
know. I read Gillian posted that she was involved in "culling
through all the HL footage in storage from Highlander, to find the
best alternate takes and unused scenes to include on the DVD sets for
      seasons 3-6."

Ditto on that! :) I have to wait as money's too tight right now, but
it'll sure be nice to eventually replace all the bulky VHS sets with
      DVDs.

      >Wendy(How is the price of dvd sets set anyway?)

I've seen a few different posts here with varying prices. I looked
up S1 at Amazon & they want $76.49, with 'new & used' ones starting
      at $55.99.

They're selling HL S2 also - as 'not yet released' for $67.49 (what
      the hell's wrong with $77, $56 & $68?)(I'm tired of this $.99 crap),
with a release date of July 29.

      >(Star Trek Deep Space 9 sets cost $100.)("Buffy sets cost
      >$50)(Babylon 5 sets cost $75.)(Friends cost $30.)(All for 22

Good question! What annoying, wildly varying prices they're charging
for all these TV series DVDs! They want about $75 for LFN S1, which
was just released also. Again, this is all at Amazon.

I haven't looked, but is there a market for used tape sets in very
good condition? Probably eBay? I may hassle selling my tape sets to
help pay for the DVDs...otherwise it could be a long wait for me.

      I totally agree, Quinn.

Fru Lady, can we pretty please have some frus? I gotta
      see the
underwear scene again! Even if it was already posted.
      Yum!

All in all, a most excellent adventure. All this, and
      the underwear,
bare chest, loose hair, and a romp with the duchess to
      boot! Darn
better than chocolate-- even the rich Austrian stuff
      my friend in
Vienna sent, that I was munching during the show. LOL

My comments, as posted to Holyground forum:
      >
I think I'm going to add this one to my 'favorite eps'
      list, even
though I was in tears or close to tears during a large
      part of it.
(the flashback scenes were sooo sad....*sob* I gotta
      feel sorry for
Mac. Twice now he's moved on from what happened only
      to have the
wounds ripped open again. Maybe now, he can move on
      finally.

I think it said a lot about Mac with him deciding not
      to exact
revenge. It's natural to want closure and justice, to
      want the
responsibe party to pay, but Mac could also see that
      Mark had changed
and was wise enough to let the kid have what he and
      Tessa had so
      desperately wanted.

I love Stan's acting in here...I could really see the
      rage and anger
in his eyes and on his face. And Richie, too, was wise
      enough (no
doubt due to Mac and Tessa's influence) to let Mark
      go.

I kept thinking back to 'Take Back the Night' and the
      lesson that was
passed between Mac and Cierdwyn....'revenge never
      solves anything'.
Mac knew that getting his revenge wouldn't change or
      undo anything,
and showed mercy even though there wasn't true
      justice.

The only part I didn't like was that Quickening...Can
      we say 'Hokey'?
LOL. Gotta love Mac's quip though. "Should have bought
      earthquake
      insurance."

And how about that yummmy view of Duncan in his undies
      and robe?
      Yummmmmmm! pantpantpant me-YOW!

Ok, I'll go throw cold water on myself before I
      overheat. But you
gotta admit that was some view, eh ladies?

Overall, a rather good, well acted ep, despite the
      Quickening. And
Mac's got some great lines, too.('nice flea collar.'
      Love it.)

Question: Why didn't Mac make any effort to call the
      police and
ambulance? I know that he probably knew there was no
      hope, but I'd
want to know that everything that could have been done
      to try and
      save her had been done.

Richie's lucky that they didn't have DNA testing
      yet....they may have
found that there were actually TWO blood types and
      then things
      would've gotten even more confusing.

Besides Darkness, Gathering and the ep with the
      pigeons (Avenging
Angel?) where were the Tessa flashbacks from? I didn't
      recognize some
of them. Was it stuff that was cut for time
      considerations?

Mel, who knows that AP had rotties until his ex got
      them and wonders
if any of those were his rotties

Well, if anyone was, it would have been DPP. After all, they were "forced"
to put out corrected/expanded versions of each & every HL film. I expect
they saw the whole euro minute thing as a godsend, as it was a great boon to
sales of their HL video sets. Now, they get to do it all over again on DVD.
I just wish they were making it worthwhile _aside_ from changing formats; S1
isn't, & S2 looks iffy. As for delays, the series ended 5 years ago, & the
season 2 set is coming out this month. Other shows seem able to put out
quality DVDs a lot more promptly.

It's not so much that BP was the ONLY one talking on the S1 DVDs, as he did
it so poorly & had nothing of note to say. However, the box touts
"Interviews"; the implication is something more than 22 monologue snippets
from the same guy. I do hope the rest of the sets give us more & better
      than that.
