Not sure either way. I checked the Watcher CD & a couple review sites, but
no one mentions this detail one way or the other. Looked like nuts to me,
in the shell. Walnuts? Chestnuts? Could be coal, I guess. Seems a little
more plausible that young Bernard would have gathered a load of nuts from
the forest to help feed the group, than that he'd be wheeling around a load
of coal. Would coal back then be all nice & uniform like this seemed to be,
as though it came out of the Matchlight charcoal bag ready for the grill?

Actually that's exactly what I thought the prop guys may've done since it was only a FB scene. Technically if it was coal it should have been all chunky & lumpy, but I thought maybe they just bought a few bags of BBQ coals and dumped them in the wheelbarrow. :) It doesn't really matter. Yes, I'm slow, but I just got around to actually watching the HL season 1 DVD set that I bought ages ago. And I am vastly disappointed. There's really not much there, is there? The Watcher info is extremely difficult to read on a TV screen, due to the small print & archaic font. Since it's ripped off from the Watcher CD, though, it's nothing new anyway. The other extras (Bloopers & Behind Scenes) are old hat, too. The BIG disappointment is that the ONLY commentary (misleadingly billed on the box as "Interviews") is by Bill Panzer, wheezing & rambling through some rather dry stuff on each ep. Other than idly wondering if he was going to make it through each piece, I was actually BORED, & it's very hard to bore me w/ anything HL. As for the eps themselves, they are beautiful, & it IS nice to be able to skip around instantly & watch fav scenes, the Qs, etc. And DVDs are wonderfully compact, compared to VHS. But, these sets could have been so much more than space-savers.... Season 2 is just now out on DVD, right? Any _good_ commentary or anything else of interest on them? And, is season 3 scheduled to come out anytime soon? Or, will the original crop of fans die of old age before the series is fully available on DVD? If they're gonna be bare-bones, then why the wait? Nina mac.westie@verizon.net ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jul 2003 20:41:26 -0700 From: Gregory Mate Subject: Re: HL DVD sets??? Nina: > Season 2 is just now out on DVD, right? Any _good_ commentary or anything > else of interest on them? I have the first two seasons on VHS (one of the tapes is improperly spliced -- starts 10 minutes into the episode, then next episode, then the first 10 minutes of the initial episode at the end of the tape, but with all the problems I read about the Highlander Store I thought it best to just be happy there were no other problems with the tapes). I probably would not buy those seasons again on DVD until I had the rest (seasons 3-6), but I would buy the rest on DVD instead. Even with the lame extras, I like the longevity of DVD better (not to mention the compactness you desired as well). >And, is season 3 scheduled to come out anytime soon? Or, will the >original crop of fans die of old age before the series is fully available on >DVD? If they're gonna be bare-bones, then why the wait? You're right. It doesn't make sense to me, either. It really shouldn't be *that* difficult to master the rest of the seasons, and aren't DVD's cheaper to manufacture than VHS? Probably some sort of bizarre marketing strategy which makes sense only to DPP. ....Greg.... gmate@rogers.com He Who Wishes He Had Enough Cash To Buy All The Highlander Tchotchkes ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Jul 2003 01:00:39 +0000 From: beccaelizabeth Subject: Re: HL DVD sets??? > Season 2 is just now out on DVD, right? Any _good_ commentary or > anything else of interest on them? Actually they've been saying season 2 was out since the end of last year. So I ordered it then. From the Highlander store. They allegedly shipped it in May. They've charged me for it (hugely more than the set via amazon.com or play.com). And its completely lacking arrival here. Why do I still do this? Triumph of hope over experience. They started announcing it as just in last month so they'd been lying for six months about the availability. And if they'd actually sent it then two months should be enough time to get here. So I think they're cheating again. And my helpful people have been set on them to try and get my money back. On the upside play.com has never gypped me yet and they say its released in a few more days so I ordered it from then. I might end up with two sets (believe that when I see it) but I'm pretty sure I can find a good home for the other one if it ever DOES turn up. I know everyone here knows what the store is like, but I thought I'd just say. I pretty much need DVDs because all my tapes (of everything ever) are all going fuzzy now. Is getting so I'm having to get downloads of all the good stuff just to be able to see things I've already got. The very worst are my many generations out fan made Sentinel tapes but everything I've ever recorded is at least two years old and usually older so its not working so good no more. anyways, later beccaelizabeth http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Delphi/4212/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jul 2003 15:49:14 -1000 From: MacWestie Subject: Re: HL DVD sets??? be-- > Actually they've been saying season 2 was out since the end of last year. I just checked around, & HL S2 is available 7-29 from real stores online, & there's a better than even chance _they_ will actually ship it out to the people who order it. The features are advertised as-- a.. DVD Features: a.. All 22 episodes on 8 discs b.. Episode-by-episode commentary from Bill Panzer and David Abramowitz c.. Adrian Paul audio and video episodic commentary on disc three d.. Episode-by-episode photo galleries e.. Season two scripts f.. Cast/crew filmographies on DVD-ROM g.. Watcher chronicles h.. Lost scenes i.. Number of discs: 8 So, at least BP has someone to talk to. And we get a bit of AP--lovely. And some lost scenes--cool. Plus scripts & photos. I'll wait a bit & probably get the S2 set off ebay, or maybe from Best Buy.com (currently $60). be-- >>> The very worst are my many > generations out fan made Sentinel tapes >>> Karma. >And, is season 3 scheduled to come out anytime soon? It's also not like DPP has all that much else going on recently or at present, so I'm sure it is a money thing. DPP's delaying strategy may backfire. Personally, my interest in the franchise is at an all-time low now, & in a couple years it's quite likely I won't want a DVD set of season 6--or even of a good season like 5--simply for the sake of completion. Really? I always thought the flashbacks were, if anything, treated better/more carefully than the present day stuff. The production people usually did a pretty good job of making the details look right in the flashbacks, & I can see them hacking up coal to look historically "right" in this scene, if it was coal. If anyone has a copy of the script for Mortal Sins, it should say what Bernard is wheeling around.
