HL newbie, here. Just got into it this year (introduced by a sword fanatic
friend of mine), so please forgive any errors, only seen complete season 1
and bits and pieces of 5&6.
But here goes:

Methos, season 6, anyone? I mean, they put him in the credits and then do
*three* eps out of 22 (? someone correct me if that's wrong..). And not
even as a main character in two of them! I know that was to do with PW's
unavailability but....
Just my two penn'orth.

Yes, it was because of his unavailability... but he was unavailable because
they hadn't bothered to put him under *contract* when they got their season
approved and he took another job. The man had to work, y'know? I also
remember Peter Wingfield saying, in person, that he *was* available much
sooner than they did use him and he would have been happy/available to do
more episodes. I don't know why they didn't write him into more episodes...
perhaps by that time they had already planned out all of the scripts or
something.
Jim Byrnes also could have been used more in the 6th season but apparently
that was a financial issue with getting him over to Paris for whatever
episodes he was going to be in.
And Elizabeth Gracen (also in the credits for 6th season and yet only appears
in the final two episodes!)... well, apparently they had intended to use her
in more episodes but due to financing were "forced" to right the infamous
"butt kicking chicks" tryout episodes, instead.
I'd say the fellows with the money screwed the viewers over pretty good when
it came to 6th season HL. Not saying I hated the entire season. It had its
good points and I definitely loved the last 3 episodes (when we got some
"real" HL back, imo). But, overall, yes, I think it was a wasted season and
the series could just as easily have ended with the 5th and, aside from
Richie's demise, it might have actually left a better taste in the mouth of
many fans.
