Did you all know that there is an active fandom of writers churning out new
highlander stories on fanfic.net? i sure didnt, until a few days ago that is. i
think i'm still subscribed to HLFiclist here, but nothing's been posted for
months, i think one story in the past year. I was wondering why there isnt more
cross fertilization or contact here.

The last time I looked at fanfic.net, there was too much dreck to sort
through in an effort to find the rare nugget of good writing. If you
have any specific recommendations, I would love to hear them.
There is a relatively new HL automated fiction archive at:
http://hlfiction.net/
Over 700 stories have been posted there, many of them relatively new.
There are also a lot of writers who only post to livejournals, but those
postings are mostly captured by summaries and links on hlflash, at:
http://community.livejournal.com/hl_flash/

Yes, i did notice a higher dreck to engaging writing ratio than i remember on
the HLfic list, why do you think that is? is it a younger group of people
doing the writing now? is that a good thing that new fans are continuing to come
in to try to write about the show and movies? i'll go check out the other
lists. how is the dreck ratio there? any diff?

What constitutes dreck and what is a good story is, especially in the
world of fanfic, all a matter of personal taste, of course. As to
fanfic.net, I'm talking through my hat here, making (probably)
unwarrented and prejudicial assumptions, etc., but it is my sense that
fanfic.net is populated mostly by very young and one-off story writers
who didn't stay with the fandom for more than a nanosecond. The more
committed writer/fans usually seek out the fandom community, read
extensively what has already been written, discuss canon, talk about the
characters and the concepts and the plots, then eventually share their
work with that community. That's not to say there isn't a certain
amount of dreck seen there, too. *g*
I'm sure there are some really good stories on the fanfic.net site,
though, from folks who - for whatever reason - never posted to the
established Highlander fiction sites, or identified themselves to the
community. Good luck in finding them, and if you do, let us know!

There is one Highlander/Stargate story on fanfiction.net I would
recommend: The Immortal Spacemonkey. In it, Daniel is an
ancient Immortal and a friend of Methos.

This is sort of a condensed summary of the stories i found there...um...the=20
better ones, even...
She smirked as his thumb stroked gently across her softly opened lips, his=20
eyes gazing down at her wide with love and dark with adoration.=20
=E2=80=9CI love you so much,=E2=80=9D he murmured, leaning close to kiss her=
, =E2=80=9CYou've taught=20
me to enjoy life again=E2=80=A6=E2=80=9D but his mouth missed her lips as=20=
she winked and=20
stood on tiptoe to kiss the tip of his nose instead, giggled sweetly and the=
n=20
scampered away across the floor, laughing as he followed her with a wide gri=
n=20
plastered across his face now.=20
All other input on what NOT to do in a fanfic would be sort of fun, a no no=20
compilation of things to REALLY REALLY avoid...the moment i see smirked i kn=
ow=20
i'm in trouble, i swear i've never seen so many smirking characters in my=20
life, followed by nose kissing and plastered grins...and scampering...um...p=
uppies=20
scamper, maybe kittens...i don't think i've even seen a grown up person do=20
it...except in fanfic...
