Subject: Gaelic pronunciation question
I recently discovered J. Ardian Lee's "Son of the Sword" books. Really,
really good! They're about a guy who lives above his dojo and teaches
martial arts (ObHL). In these books however, he really does time travel back
to the 18th century.
Could someone who knows please tell me how to pronounce the following words.
It's starting to drive me crazy that I don't know how!
Sile (Girl's name)
Ciaran
Ciorram (made up glen)
Thanks,
Judy, the Chocolate Slayer judyas77@hotmail.com

Apparently there really are only 7 plots in the whole historyof
storytelling!

Does he run into Claire and Jamie?

Can't say I've ever heard of that name, but it would probably be "seely"
> Ciaran
Same as the Irish.
Kee-Ran. (there is an A in there, but it's kind of hard to hear unless
you are used to the Scots tongue

Could be either Kee-oh-ram or Choram, since it's made up. Probably the
former.

I want to apologize to the list for going off on a rant. I meant every
single word, but this is probably not the place for that kind of thing.
It's just that ginning up religious offence just because some spammer's
given name happened to be Jesus just frosted my cupcake.
I'll shut up about it now.

Actually, I haven't been checking on this list in a very, VERY long time and
I do have to say: it's fascinating and kind of fun to be back! This is one
heck on a conversation (and thank you to Wendy, Jette, and MacG for putting
your rational spins on things... oh, and it's so good to see you again,
Wendy!). The list may have slowed down some from the old days, but I see some
things haven't changed all that much :-).

Glad to see my little faux paux with the name of our detested spammer generated such a wealth of discussion. Almost as much as ink pots at Qumran recently on the Ancient Near Eastern Studies list I'm on. Didn't think that taking the spammer's name in vain could cause such offense. Sorry to those who took offense. Do you suppose Duncan used an ink pot?

p.s. And where are those archives!? Especially the ones with Kip!
