Hee. Yeah. Sorry. Try and keep up. :)

Actually, I was watching (forget the name; the ep where the Prometheus
      gets the
crap kicked out of it) and my brother yells at the TV (about the guest
      star), "Don't
      believe him! He's a Cylon!"

      Mixing fandoms is *fun*.

Hey, I think Mitchell is totally cool and I adore him. But I miss
      O'Neill terribly.

Why on Earth did they name Mitchell after the actor from the High
      Chapparral? Geez.

I just can't get into the new BSG. I've tried. Really I have. But...a) I
can't get the old version out of my head while watching the new and b) I
think almost everyone in the new version is despicable <eg> Who,

      I don't miss O'Neill because O'Neill has been gone for 4 or 5 years.
Sure, there was a guy who looked something like him (except really
*old*) who showed up periodically but he wasn't the same character. He
wasn't snide. He wasn't really-smart-playing-dumb he was just mostly
really-dumb. RDA was so obviously disengaged that it wasn't worth having
him around. Plus...did I mention how damn old he looked? He got greyer
and thinner until I was afraid he would break if he was hit too hard.
TPTB should have killed him off - out in a blaze of glory with no
return-from-the-dead. Dead. Mourned. Gone. Sam could have nursed her
poor unrequited feelings for a while and then shagged some alien stud
until she felt better. (What SG1 needs- more casual sex)(Make that *any*
casual sex)(Capt. Kirk got more action 30 years ago.)(So much for cable
      TV)

      > Why on Earth did they name Mitchell after the actor from the
      > High Chapparral? Geez.

Because you and I are the only two people in the universe who remember
      High Chaparral?

One advantage to losing O'Neill and gaining Mitchell? The characters now
call each other by name! Sam calls Mitchell "Cam", he calls her "Sam"!
Love that equality of ranks informality. (Frankly, I always thought
TPTB spent too much effort trying to make SG1 work like "real" Air Force
personnel. It's TV, man. Fiction. The characters tossed out every rule
and regulation at some point *except* the non-fraternization rule? What
are the odds of that? The *real* Air Force can't keep it's *real*
      people from shagging each other!

      > >Nina hates Michael Shanks?
      >
      > Yup. But I couldn't resist poking her. You know me.

I don't hate Michael Shanks. I have grown less fond of Daniel Jackson
over time , mostly because I think 2 returns from the dead are at least
one return too many. Ascend, don't ascend- pick one and be that. I
fault the writers mostly (since Daniel Jackson can hardly be blamed for
his own character flaws.)(Unless you believe that characters speak to
writers and writers just put down what they hear in their heads.)(Which
sounds like a mental problem.)("I had to make Anne Lindsey the most
ridiculous ER doctor on TV. That's what she told me to do.")("More
ridiculous than the ER doctors on ER?")("Yes, I was sitting at the
computer and Anne whispered in my ear that she shouldn't be smart,
competent, graceful under pressure and a shining example of every doctor
who ever handled whatever shite came through the ER doors at 3 AM, she
wanted to be flighty, indecisive, clingy and generally useless in a
crisis.")("Wow, she said all that?")("Yes, right after she told me that
      Richie was gay.")

      >
      > She might love it *now*. She'd love it more if Daniel died.
      > But like an Immie, he keeps on coming back!

I like SG1 more this year than last. But then I'm a Ben Browder fan and
wasn't at all upset when he was hired. In fact, I think they spent way
too much time this year on Daniel. Been there, done that . Give me
Cameron. (In black leather pants.) I like Vala too..in small doses. She
and Daniel need to hook up and by hook up I mean shag each other
      senseless.

      >(Debbie! I said "crap".)

I said "shite" and "shagging" and "gay". This is kinda fun.

       >I just can't get into the new BSG. I've tried.

When I first started watching I was completely bored. Thought it was
      tedious. Then,
somewhere in the second season, that "get it" switch in my head went ON
      and now
I love it. Re-watched the first season and couldn't understand why I
      thought it was
      tedious!

       > a) I can't get the old version out of my head while watching the new

The first time I watched Kara and Lee and their little mating dance and
      thought, "I
wish Starbuck and Apollo would get together", I got the totally WRONG mental
image. No, no, I have to scrub my brain out now!

On the plus side, the DVDs of the original series are way cool and the
      silver cylons
      still rule!

       >b) I think almost everyone in the new version is despicable <eg> Who,
       >exactly, are we suppose to be rooting for?

I'm kinda rooting for the Cylons. ;) Seriously, they want to BE us,
      right? Or at
least convert us? Whatever. They're fun. Can the Cylon who was tortured by
Starbuck (sorry, Kara) come and play? PLEASE?

       >(What SG1 needs- more casual sex)(Make that *any* casual sex)
       >(Capt. Kirk got more action 30 years ago.)

Yeah but Kirk was the coolest. :) Kirk ruled. But yeah, definitely more
      sex. Can
they all get some more than once every four years?

       >Because you and I are the only two people in the universe who remember
       >High Chaparral?

And I HATE Westerns! But really, I thought they had people who studied up
on names that one could and couldn't use. I mean, this isn't Due South!

       >One advantage to losing O'Neill and gaining Mitchell? The characters now
       >call each other by name! Sam calls Mitchell "Cam", he calls her "Sam"!

And he calls Daniel "Jackson". Can I just vote for how ANNOYING that is?!

       >I don't hate Michael Shanks. I have grown less fond of Daniel Jackson
       >over time , mostly because I think 2 returns from the dead are at least
       >one return too many.

But that's Daniel's gimmick. You can't keep a good archaeologist down!

       >(Unless you believe that characters speak to writers and writers just
      put down
       >what they hear in their heads.)(Which sounds like a mental problem.)

I don't think so; I think they just think, "Hm, what would this
      character do?"
And of course they take the actor into consideration. Daniel has gotten more
dry as time has gone on. I don't *really* mind - but every so often I watch
the movie and (lament that James Spader didn't get to be naked)(oops, did
I say that?) see what Daniel used to be like.

It's only fans who claim characters live in their heads and talk to
      them. Probably
      still a mental problem. Heh.

       >("Wow, she said all that?")("Yes, right after she told me that Richie
      was gay.")

      Now, Wendy. Play nice.

       >I like SG1 more this year than last. But then I'm a Ben Browder fan
      and wasn't
       >at all upset when he was hired.

I was thrilled. Did the dance of joy and everything. TPTB, I think, have
      learned how
NOT to alienate the audience when handling a changeover. I read in
      _Beyond the
Gate_ that after Michael Shanks left (temporarily, Nina, stop getting
      excited) at the
end of season 5, that TPTB got death threats! I guess they decided to
      avoid going a
route that would get them death threats this time.

       > In fact, I think they spent way too much time this year on Daniel.
      Been there, done that .

How exactly? Vala and the whole Ori thing? Yup, way too much.

       > Give me Cameron. (In black leather pants.)

Okay... he looks *gooood* in black leather pants. But then I'd want to
      call him John
and that would just be wrong.

       > I like Vala too..in small doses.

No, I *hate* Vala. Hate, hate, hate! Either she's good or bad, make up
      your mind.
And you can't trust anything she says. Who needs that? Geesh.

       > She and Daniel need to hook up and by hook up I mean shag each other
       >senseless.

That would kind of make me like her more.

       >(Come on ... Richie was a little gay.)(Hence his problems with women.)

Write *one* little story where Richie and Duncan do it (and by do it I

We're pretty much talking everything BUT Highlander these days. Too bad
there's no HL film in the works. Oh, wait....

I always root for Jamie Bamber taking his clothes off, myself.

Really, I totally adore BG, for countless reasons, probably mostly because I
never know what's going to happen next. (As opposed to, say, Stargate, just
where 5 minutes in, EVERYONE knows any given ep's conclusion AND every plot
point they'll hammer along their ponderous way there. W/ BB on SG-1, I'll
watch it, but even he can't make me like it.) I just cannot resist a TV
show that's smarter than I am. If it's also more wicked than I am--bonus
points. Galactica wins me over on both counts. (Mercurial/whimsical also
works for me. Farscape was brilliant, amoral & wacky, so--hat trick.)

      Jette--
      > In story reason? Mitchell's mum was a High Chapparral fan.

Yum--Manolito & Billy Blue. And Johnny Lancer.... Plus, of course, Little
Joe, the start of all the western hotties of that era. (Speaking of
westerns, Firefly's on Sci Fi Channel all day today. I couldn't get into
Firefly on Fox but fell in love w/ it on DVD, & Serenity was fabulous.)

Early on, BB's character name was rumored to have the initials MM (which had
obvious possibilities), but apparently the planned 1st name didn't clear
legally, so he got Cam. Which does lead nicely to "Shaft" as a call name,
      so ....

I just rejoined the list (with a new address) after being off for about 6
years. I spent a lot of time on the list back in the late '90's when I
was working late shifts at the university libraries. I have missed the
weasels and flagwavers, however and wanted to access the archives of the
list to find the Highlander IV script and the epic Weasel Poking stories.
It suprised me that the list was still active, as several that I had been
on back then have folded or moved on and the series and movies seem to
have become inactive (I used to catch the occassional ep on Spike a year
or so back). Also, I believe the archive used to be indexed through
search engines and I could find my posts by searching for my former e-mail
      addresses (hein0015@gold.tc.umn.edu and heinr007@maroon.tc.umn.edu), but
not any more (for HIGHLA-L or CELTIC-L). I had a page on a personal web
page with links to various posts I had made about beheadings, and other
things on various lists, but most of the links have become inactive,
including to Marina Bailey's synopsis of the Highlander IV script. Just
today I threatened to dust of an old weasel poker to prod recaltrant
students to submit course evaluations. Also, I don't see any old archives
      listed.
      Thanks
      Earl J. Heinrich

After reading the recent archives I had begun to think that maybe the
ListWeasel had taken Debbie captive and had her ferrets guarding her so
that she would not interfere with some diabolical plot.
Glad to see there's still some flag-pole whapping!

well it is a tiny bit moribund, but still alive.
Most of the action has moved here:

Last time I looked there were 955 *active* members.
The website is here, it is all run by Carmel McPherson.

I remember the High Chaparral as well. It was one of my favorite shows.

      No Highlander reference at all.
