In due respect to the mood of the season allow me first to give you
My gift for the coming holidays - Food for thought and the pocket.
The writings, however, are now on the wall: the continued rise in gold, silver and other commodities prices http://www.howestreet.com/story.php?ArticleId=1768 is a sure inflationary pressure. This is most likely the harbinger of a worldwide economic recession that I have mentioned in at least two issues of this Subscription Financial Report. It is also confirmed by the historical correlation between oil price and inflation http://www.golddrivers.com/gold&Oil.htm. This is reminiscent of what happened just prior to the widespread recession in the 70's. Statistics, as a matter of fact, confirms that the recession in the U.S. already started in March, 2001! http://www.frbsf.org/publications/economics/letter/2001/el2001-29.html and verified by Private Economists Declare Recession in the U.S. http://bogota.usembassy.gov/wwwsec02.shtml. What a coincidence with the DOT COM BUBBLE burst! http://www.asianweek.com/2002_04_26/b
The Federal Reserve Board raised the interest rate again by a quarter point for the thirteenth consecutive times http://money.cnn.com/2005/12/13/news/economy/fed_rates/index.htm
Oil holds above $61 http://money.cnn.com/2005/12/13/markets/oil.reut/index.htm as it inches toward the hundred dollar mark possibly toward the end of winter, this season where oil demand for heating is now perking up. The time is fast coming, I hope, for the alternative energy sources http://www.livinggracefully.com/save_our_mother_earth.htm to be economically competitive with the deleterious fossil fuel. I therefore encourage our subscribers and readership to join our object oriented online community Millions_March_to_save_humanity@yahoogroups.com.
Looking at the over two years of market performance with the DOW trading nervously in the disheartening narrow range from 10,000 to 11,000 http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=djia&sid=1643&o_symb=djia&freq=2&time=12 the four-year high reached by the market yesterday I see as the beginning of a continued downward trend going as low on its first leg to 9,700, possibly within the next 3-6 months, not surprisingly coinciding again with tax time (April 15) as it did this year http://livinggracefully.com/Financial%20Newsletter/Financial%20newsletter%20July%2015,%202005.htm.
Take some precautions or even better to sell your holdings where you have made some gains.
The stocks in my live portfolio that were previously recommended and now profitably traded are:
(1) Petroquest Energy (PQUE - http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=pque&sid=0&o_symb=pque) originally suggested in the Financial newsletter April 16, 2004 (http://livinggracefully.com/financialnewsletter_040416.htm);
(2) FREMONT (FMT - http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=fmt&sid=0&o_symb=fmt&freq=1&time=8) which was also mentioned in that issue;
(3) Innexus Biotechnology, the Canadian firm specializing in bringing new Super Antibody technologies into the healthcare industry (IXSBF - http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=ixsbf&x=9&y=10) which was first announced in the Financial newsletter October 15, 2004 (http://livinggracefully.com/Financial%20Newsletter/financialnewsletter.htm);
(4) US 1 Industries, Inc. (USOO - http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=USOO&sid=0&o_symb=USOO&freq=1&time=7&x=45&y=16), mentioned in the previous quarter’s financial report;
(5) JOYSTAR INC (JYSR) http://www.smallcapcenter.com/snapshot_chart.asp?ticker=JYSR
(6) Mirant Corporation (MIRKQ http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=MIRKQ&sid=0&o_symb=MIRKQ&freq=1&time=6&x=32&y=12) which provides electricity and energy-related products and services throughout the world, owns and operates power production and delivery facilities, markets energy and energy-linked commodities and manages the risk associated with market price fluctuations, which yours truly acquired on 4/11/05 for 0.29/sh and liquidated on 7/7/05 for 0.60/sh at an extremely high return (including commissions) of one hundred twenty three percent (123%) on an annualized basis!
(7) Liberty Star Gold Corp (LBTS http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=LBTS&sid=0&o_symb=LBTS&freq=1&time=8&x=) and obtained again just lately.
8) Paradyne Networks (PDYN http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=pdyn&sid=0&o_symb=pdyn&x=53&y=11 through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Paradyne Corporation, is a leading developer, manufacturer and distributor of broadband, or high-speed digital, and narrowband, or conventional analog, communications products for network service providers and business customers. The company offers cost-effective hardware and software products that enable business class, service level managed, high-speed connectivity over the existing telephone network infrastructure.
Within a month on a very aggressive and obvious upward movement, it was aggressively trading in the 1.95 to 2.08/sh, unfortunately (I should say 'fortunately" for vigilant and very patient traders) when the market nosedived on Friday, June 24, 2005 due to the price of oil getting back to the $60s/barrel PDYN went back down to 1.80 satisfying my limit order of 1.82! http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story.asp?siteid=bigcharts&dist=bigcharts&guid=%7B28AF4156-9E61-4A05-955E-9882BF46D134%7D.
(9) Refco (RFXCQ http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=RFXCQ&sid=0&o_symb=RFXCQ&freq=1&time=6 ) but subsequently repurchased as per above alert.
(10) TELESYSTEM INTL (NSD : TIWI http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=TIWI&sid=0&o_symb=TIWI&freq=1&time=6 )
My live following portfolio now consists:
(1) Dura Automotive Systems Cl A (DRRA - http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=drra&sid=0&o_symb=drra&freq=1&time=6), first reported in one of my messages in early December 2004
(2) Integrated Electrical Svc (IES) (http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=ies&sid=0&o_symb=ies&freq=1&time=5, subsequently announced in my message dated December 16, 2004
(3) After noticing that InNexus Biotechnology, Inc.’s very uncommon disparity between its stock price, which was going down, and its excellent public announcement about its Super Antibody technology, I acquired the stock again.
(4) Following the success of Petroquest Energy and because the price of oil can only keep on going up (oil reserves are now dwindling) I also added just recently Montana Oil & Gas Inc (MOGI http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=MOGI&sid=0&o_symb=MOGI&x=22&y=15), a company drilling in the oil-and-gas-rich region of Alberta, Canada. Also check its web site http://www.montanaoil.com/ for the latest update.
(5) OCA INC (OCA) as an analyst calls it the "McDonald's of braces," provides business services to orthodontists and pediatric dentists. The Company's client practices provide treatment to patients throughout the United States, Japan, Mexico, Spain and Puerto Rico. It nosedived (in the week beginning 6/6) upon discovery of impropriety, but steadily stabilized upon immediate action of its Board of Directors (BOD). From a yearly high of 7.88/sh to a low of 1.75/sh on 6/12 then immediately stabilized and firmly supported in a narrow price range between 1.75 and 1.85/sh (including daily fluctuations). On 7/11, my order placed the previous day, Sunday, 7/10, was executed at 1.76/sh. Then the stock after touching a momentary low of 1.75/shot immediately back up to 1.82/sh. This opportune incident almost tempted me to resell immediately as in a day’s trade. But better judgment led me to stick to my disciplined investing for more profits on a little longer t!
erm.
(6) PUTNAM CAL INVT (PCA - http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=pca&sid=0&o_symb=pca&freq=1&time=8)
(7) PENDER FINL GROUP CORP (PDFFF - http://charts3.barchart.com/chart.asp?sym=PDFFF&data=A&jav=adv&vol=Y&evnt=adv&grid=Y&code=BSTK&org=stk&fix=), also mentioned in the previous quarter’s financial report.
(8) Segmentz Inc. (SZI http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=SZI&sid=0&o_symb=SZI&freq=1&time=6)
provides specialized transportation and third party logistics services. The Company's services include expedited airfreight forwarding, ground and ocean movement, transportation management, warehousing management, order fulfillment, and reverse logistics. Segmentz operates locations in several states.
(9) JOYSTAR INC (JYSR) http://www.smallcapcenter.com/snapshot_chart.asp?ticker=JYSR
(10) FREMONT (FMT - http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=fmt&sid=0&o_symb=fmt&freq=1&time=8)
(11) Delphi Corp (DPHIQ http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=DPHIQ&sid=0&o_symb=DPHIQ&x=12&y=19), the nation's largest automotive supplier to the federal government and General Motors Corp. The investors’ positive response to favorable court rulings regarding its Chapter 13 proceedings and subsequent financial and management realignment is clearly evident in its recent price reversal for the better.
(12) Liberty Star Gold (LBTS) LBTS http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=lbts&sid=0&o_symb=lbts&freq=1&time=8
(13)* Refco (RFXCQ http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=RFXCQ&sid=0&o_symb=RFXCQ&freq=1&time=6 )

Note that we actually used just a set of stocks (FMT, LBTS, JYSR, etc.) whose ups and downs we followed (mostly through screenings) and profited in the process. The only exception is the PUTNAM CA INVESTMENT GRADE MUNI TRUST (PCA) because it continuously pays us dividends on a monthly basis. But this is actually our only conservative investment.

The impending avian flu pandemic, reminiscent of the widespread influenza that killed 25 million worldwide http://home.nycap.rr.com/useless/bubonic_plague/, is also in the minds of most people. Many hospitals around the world, in particular from Hawaii to New Jersey, are now mobilizing to get ready for the eventuality. To be forewarned is to be forearmed: for more information and preparation resource click Avian Flu Resource http://www.livinggracefully.com/avian__flu_resource.htm.
Because of this potential epidemic and its consequential prevention preparation exacerbated by the recent calamities (tsunami, hurricanes - particularly Katrina, earthquakes, etc.) I am now more than ever convinced that the global economy will correspondingly react negatively that may even last now for over a year.
"Katrina's economic cost put at $100B" http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story.asp?siteid=bigcharts&dist=bigcharts&guid=%7B5BAF8843-43C6-472A-AE56-50A9D5503B20%7D forced me to revise upward my projection of the CPI.

But we shall overcome and so allow me to be a little bit hard headed and offer you again

Character actor Vincent Schiavelli dies at 57
ASSOCIATED PRESS
December 26, 2005
ROME (AP) — Vincent Schiavelli, the droopy-eyed character actor who
appeared in scores of movies, including “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”
and “Ghost,” died Monday at his home in Sicily. He was 57.
He died of lung cancer, said Salvatore Glorioso, mayor of Polizzi Generosa,
the Sicilian village where Schiavelli resided.
Schiavelli, whose gloomy look made him perfect to play creepy or eccentric
characters, made appearances in some 150 film and television productions,
according to the Internet Movie Database.
Among the movies: “Fast Times at Ridgemont
High,” “Amadeus,” “Batman Returns,” and “The People vs. Larry Flynt.” He
was selected in 1997 by Vanity Fair as one of America’s best character actors.
Schiavelli, who was born and raised in New York, studied acting at New York
University’s School of the Arts.
He also wrote three cookbooks and many food articles for magazines and
newspapers, possibly inheriting his love for cooking from his grandfather,
who had been a cook for an Italian baron before moving to the United
States, according to IMDB.
“He was a great friend, a great chef and a great talker,” Glorioso, who has
known Schiavelli for almost four years, said in a telephone interview.
“With a smooth, witty conversation, he would make everything look more
colorful. I’ve lost a brother,” he said.
Schiavelli also had worked in Italy, including in 2001 when he directed a
theater piece in Sicily based on nine fables.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday in Polizzi Generosa, Glorioso said.
