Apropos of nothing, when I read this I had this clear as day flashback
to . . . any one of a dozen memories of my younger days. I ran around
for years with a cardiologist, who always, without fail, introduced
herself as Jane Smith. If you didn't already know she was a physician,
well, you weren't going to find out about it from her -- at least not
      that way.

On the other hand, there was this totally pretentious Miss Thang we
had the misfortune to run into from time to time, and she had a PHD in
something or the other. Nothing useful, I do remember that much. <eg>

Anyway, she always *insisted* on being introduced as DOCTOR Mary
Jones, and would correct *anyone* who dared leave the honorific off.

So it was always a hoot when we'd be meeting new groups of people to
let my friend introduce us all. It was great fun to hear her say,
"This is DOCTOR Mary Jones, and I'm Jane Smith."

I don't think Mary dear ever quite caught on to how much fun we all
had snarking at her behind our hands over that. <weg>

OBHR: Duncan would never insist on being introduced as "Dr." anything.
Even if he was at the time. *Especially* if he was at the time.

      I'll second that "hooray"!

Now if we could just get Debbie to actually appear for the

<g> Reminds me of my younger brother when he got his PhD.
He insisted on being addressed as Dr, especially on mail.....
then discovered that his mail was going missing. We found that
the mailman had been delivering it to the health centre down
the street instead of to his house!

LOL! October's my list anniversary month too, though it'll only be 10
years for me. I'm so glad I picked up that flyer at the second
      Gathering in October of '95!
