Exactly. Which made me think rather unkind thoughts about the people
running to fan club at the time (and I did mail them to the fan club).

I think unkind thoughts about the person who ran that fan club every single
      day.

What is it about fan clubs that seems to attract... what's the word?
Unreliable? Megalomaniacal? Stalker-types?... to run them? Most
fan clubs that I've heard of (*most*, not all) have had similar
      things happen.

I don't get it. Is it that people get too 'close' to a celebrity and
then think the celeb is their personal property? They start thinking
they are 'above' the other fans? They start thinking they have rights
to the celeb and/or set that other fans shouldn't have?

I think there are plenty of excellently-run fan clubs co-ordinated by
well-adjusted people. Being in PR is not an easy job - it can be pretty
thanless as you have to serve both the person/institution you are
representing AND the needs of those interested in them. That can lead to a
catch-22 situation and the very nature means there are some gate-keeping
duties that may sometimes mean being firm with security etc.

The real problems arise if such gatekeepers lose their perspective on that
duty and the balance needed for good public relations. Good PR people spot
opportunities to enhance the image of their client. Bad ones are more
concerned with their own. It often takes someone to more-than-subtley remind
both the PR person and the 'talent' they represent when such actions become
detrimental to everyone involved. It's a delicate balance. I think in the
early days of PEACE that was a problem which many encountered. Suffice to
say, the situation was finally dealt with.

I'm simply content with the fact that we're here and the person in question
is no longer active in fandom.

I think it's what happens when, by definition really, a celeb's "BIGGEST
FAN" is put in charge of all the other fans. The #1 loon is running the
asylum. There are bound to be ego, power, & manipulation issues. When the
person is also a total amateur as far as business goes, it _really_ gets
      ugly.

Well said, John. :) It's just too bad the PEACE situation couldn't
have been dealt with sooner since, as far as I'm concerned, it was
      very detrimental to Adrian's career.

Yes. Nearly detrimental to mine too. Thankfully the pen is mightier than the
      sword.

So true, but that reason isn't valid in this instance. The fan club manager
was an employee, not a fan. But a wacko is a wacko is a wacko.
