Subject: Eurominutes - Line of Fire
Again, from Donna and Gillian.
***********************************************
Line of Fire
Here are a couple of the foreign-only scenes from "Line of Fire." They're both the beginnings of scenes of which the ends were part of the US versions. Other than these two pieces, the extra time in "Line of Fire" was made up with really loooong pans of canoeing and the Indian Village in the first flashback and with a whole lot of Dead Indians in the second flashback.
 EXT. RICHIE'S APARTMENT - EVENING
To ESTABLISH this small, modest walk-up.
                           RICHIE (O.S.)
How come you didn't tell me?
INT. RICHIE'S APARTMENT
Fairly sparse, maybe a Che Guevera POSTER on a wall, some mementos from Paris. Richie reclines on the floor, dangling young Jeremy on his stomach while he looks at Donna sitting on the couch nearby.
                           DONNA
I was going out with Joey, remember?
                               (beat)
We only did it one time, Richie.
                           RICHIE
                         (with a smile)
                  Guess I got lucky.
                           (beat)
                  You could've called.
                           DONNA
                    I was confused...
                          (beat)
                     and afraid.
                           RICHIE
                       Of Joey?
                           DONNA
                         Of you.
                (off Richie's look)
I was afraid you wouldn't want us. Maybe you wouldn't believe me.
Richie can see the uncertainty still in her eyes. He's not sure how to respond.
                           RICHIE
We're going to work something out, Donna. It'll be okay... for all of
             us.
                           DONNA
                   You mean that?
Richie nods. Donna smiles, takes Jeremy from Richie.
                           DONNA
Time this little man hit the sack.
As she turns toward the O.C. bedroom...
                           RICHIE
                           Donna....
                          (beat)
                  You do great babies.
                           DONNA
                        You too.
She takes Jeremy into the O.C. bedroom. As she does, Richie starts to get the BUZZ. He reacts, moves cautiously to the door. He readies himself, yanks the door open -- MacLeod stands there. As Richie slumps in relief.
                           MACLEOD
                     Expecting someone?
INT. RICHIE'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
As Jeremy toddles across the floor to Richie, who is showing all the delight of a father in his child's achievements:
                           RICHIE
Attaboy, Jeremy, keep going! Donna, this kid needs a track
             coach!
Donna looks up from the PLAYPEN she is setting up in a corner, stands to regard the cramped room.
                           DONNA
                       (with hesitation)
I was thinking that it might be good if we had a bigger apartment.
Maybe we could rent a small house or something.
                           RICHIE
The way this guy's going we can live off his Nike endorsements!
                           DONNA
While you wait for the checks to roll in, I'm going to try to straighten up this mess.
She picks up Richie's jacket from a chair, opens the CLOSET -- Richie's BIKE HELMET rolls out.
                           DONNA
                (with a smile)
             If it's humanly possible.
As she leans in the closet and puts the bike helmet on the highest shelf. She feels something. She brings it down.
Donna curiously draws out the length of the sword, reacts to the gleaming blade.
                           DONNA
                           Richie...
                           RICHIE
                (engrossed with Jeremy)
                       Yo, what's up?
                           DONNA
                           You tell me.
She's serious. He looks up, sees Donna holding his SWORD.
                           RICHIE
Oh... that. It's... just something I have.

I know these are correct because they came directly from the writers' offices- care of Donna Lettow and Gillian Horvath.

The Samurai
[This scene takes place right after the scene in the loft where Midori tells
MacLeod that she killed her husband after seeing him kill her lover.]
INT. DOJO OFFICE - DAY - LATER
Charlie is behind a desk worrying some paperwork when he looks up and sees --
CHARLIE'S POV
MacLeod and Midori walking across the Dojo.
BACK TO SCENE
Charlie reacts. He rises from the chair and moves out of the office.
INT. DOJO - CONTINUOUS
                           CHARLIE
Mac, can I talk to you for a minute?
                           MACLEOD
                          (to Midori)
             Be right back.
He moves a few steps toward Charlie.
                           MACLEOD
It'll have to wait. I'm going to Japan.
Charlie does a double take as MacLeod hoists his bag to his shoulder.
                           CHARLIE
                              (carefully)
                             Hello?
                           MACLEOD
Japan. Land of the Rising Sun.
MacLeod starts for the door. Charlie stares a BEAT then goes after him.
                           CHARLIE
                      You just got back!
                           MACLEOD
                      That was Paris.
                           (a smile)
             Different continent, Charlie.
                           CHARLIE
                         Very funny.
                           MACLEOD
                              (beat)
                        Watch the store.
                           CHARLIE
                      Don't I always?
MacLeod smiles, moves off and Charlie calls after him:
                           CHARLIE
                           MacLeod.
                (MacLeod turns)
                      If you need me...
                           MACLEOD
                                I'll call.
He turns and moves through the door of the Dojo. And OFF Charlie's face as
he stares after him.
[This scene comes right after the scene in the Loft where Midori tells
MacLeod that Kent is on a yacht and MacLeod says "I can be very charming... when I have to be." Part of this scene was in the domestic version.]
INT. DOJO - DAY
As MacLeod strides across the floor, Charlie steps out of the office, looking bewildered.
                           CHARLIE
MacLeod... you're supposed to be in Japan!
                           (with sarcasm)
             Land of the Midnight Sun.
                           MACLEOD
Change of plans... my business came to me.
                                  (beat)
You said if I needed anything...
                           CHARLIE
             It's a standing offer, Mac. What's up?
                           MACLEOD
I have to leave Midori upstairs for a while. Can you keep an eye on
             her for me?
                           CHARLIE
No problem. Am I keeping her in... or someone else out?
                           MACLEOD
Someone might come asking for her.
                           CHARLIE
             I'll take care of it.
                           MACLEOD
Don't take anyone on... just get Midori out.
                           CHARLIE
                                (shrugs)
             If that's what you need.
                           MACLEOD
                     Thanks, Charlie.
He heads out. Charlie looks after him.
[This is the last part of the scene in the domestic where Charlie single- handily kicks the butts of Kent's goons.]
MacLeod moves in. Levin goes for him -- but MacLeod sends him spinning
away. He pulls Haley off Charlie and sends him sailing towards Levin. Levin pulls Haley up, and they look at MacLeod and Charlie, doubt gathering in their
eyes. They back towards the door, then turn and scramble out.
MacLeod turns to Charlie.
                           MACLEOD
                        (with a smile)
You were having so much fun. I hated to spoil your party.
                           CHARLIE
                               (beat)
How long have you been gone?
                           MACLEOD
                     Five or six months.
They move toward the elevator.
                           CHARLIE
Right, six months, everything is quiet. I don't get a hang nail.
                               (beat)
You come back and I'm fighting to keep my teeth.
                           MACLEOD
Don't thank me all at once.
Charlie dabs at his lip and follows MacLeod.
[This is the first scene of Act III in the foreign version.]
INT. OFFICE - KENT'S YACHT - NIGHT
MacLeod scowls. The office is deserted, the desk gleams as if it had never been weighted down with so much as a paper clip. Charlie roves the room, then turns back to MacLeod.
                           CHARLIE
I don't get it, MacLeod. If I was her, this is the last place I'd come running.
                  MacLeod shakes his head.
                           MACLEOD
She didn't run. She made a choice.
                           CHARLIE
             To do what?
                           MACLEOD
             Go back to Kent.
                           CHARLIE
You think she'd go back to him?
                           MACLEOD
             I know it.
                           CHARLIE
If she did, then it's over. It's out of your hands now, MacLeod...
He claps MacLeod on the shoulder and starts for the door.
                           MACLEOD
                          It's not over.
Charlie puts on the brakes.
                           CHARLIE
I've heard that before... And I never like it.
                (turning)
             Okay MacLeod... now what?
                           MACLEOD
We go back to the Dojo...
                (off Charlie's relief)
And then I catch a plane...
                           CHARLIE
             No, don't tell me...
                (beat)
             Japan?
                           MACLEOD
You're getting the hang of it.
He claps Charlie on the shoulder, walks out, and OFF
 Charlie's exasperated face:
[The scene after this is the one at Hideo's shrine which some people mistakenly thought occurred in the US. This foreign scene made it more clear he was going to Japan.]

Yes--ending Roar prematurely after highly touting the "new" eps (which,
admittedly, reeked). And making Tracker fans WAIT though the whole season
run to--maybe--see the last few eps they ditched months ago when Tremors was
finally deemed fit to air (& who made THAT bizarre call?). Exactly as
though SCI LIE were TRYING to piss off the maximum # of people possible w/
their programming decisions....

I know this is off topic, but I also know that this series has been
mentioned in several of my groups, and I *think* this was one of them. The
complete series is available for preorder on DVD for US audiences (Region
1, NTSC). However, be warned that it translates to nearly $200 US. Make
sure you click on the top graphic, the one that says £99.99. The other
graphic showing £9.99 is for Region 2 DVDs.

Sorry about the joke....I thought of that even before
seeing the ep. That's what he did after HL....went on
South Park, died every week and became famous.....LOL.
I can see both sides, really. He is a sneaky, no good,
low down, underhanded creep, but OTOH, it's really not
like he has much of a choice. He'd get picked off in
no time in direct combat. He just needed to realize
that every Immie he met wasn't out to kill him. I can
think of a lot of kimmies who would, but a lot of good
immies probably would've helped him. I think I see
some of Amanda's influence....can anyone else? We know
she was an expert at survival by wits.
This ep brings up a lot of things...assuming a child
Immie could survive long enough, there'd be a lot of
problems besides "how do I keep my head?".....Children
weren't valued all that much in some ancient cultures,
(IE the Kurgan....he's a good example)and today, he
wouldn't be able to buy property, have a bank account
or drive....legally anyway. He did it anyway...LOL.
I can understand him not getting whacked.....I
remember someone somewhere bringing up that Duncan
might not look good killing a kid. Any comments there?

At that rate, it might well be cheaper to buy a region-free DVD player
and then buy the much, much cheaper British edition. Plus, you could
play all the other British DVDs too.
I was looking at them lately, and was amazed at how inexpensive they are.
Just a thought...

When the episode first aired I was kinda hard on Kenny. Sure, he's had a
hard life. OTOH why should he still act like a child? That doesn't track
for me.
It's easy to say that not every immie would try to kill him. The problem
with trusting anyone is he only gets one wrong guess. Would tend to make
one kinda conservative with the trusting thing.
