Re several of the posts (it's just easier LOL)

      1. Speaking of the Kurgan in the church scene, am I
right in thinking that Heather never told Connor what
happened because she was afraid he'd want to hunt him
down and basically go postal, and get killed for good
in the process? It took a bit to figure it out, but
based on that death glare Connor gave Kurgan, and the
      almost-fight, it seems that way.

      2. I think I like the story about Connor giving the
sword to Duncan better. Just out of curiousity, does
it show up in Endgame? Or just Duncan's katana?

3.I was thinking, too, about the 'stand alone' thing.
No one knew there would be sequels (however
terrible)or a series and they would've had to tie it
off then in case no sequels were made. I don't see
why, considering their track record for sequels, they
      want to try another one.

Mel, who thinks Kurgan is a good bad guy, but that
he's somewhat annoying at times (but not *nearly* as
annoying as the Sickening alien villians. Yuck.)

Well I was gonna delve into Janine's post, but I was waiting till the
weekend when I can really dig my teeth into it.

But I see Wendy has gone and done it again. She's said everything I would
have said, so there's no point in my rehashing everything.

So I'll just say I agree with everything Wendy said. :-)

Oh, absolutely. But his flaws, if you like, are part of what makes
him such a fascinating character and, IMNSHO, what made the series
      work.

      >I agree that some of Duncan's attitudes are frozen in time (see above)

      >particularly awkward age. A 19 year old in 20th century American isn't
      >a child but isn't yet an adult.

Very good point. (He can kill people but can't get into bars. That must
suck.) Which makes me wonder... what if Duncan had become Immortal
when *he* was 19? Would it have made much of a difference? Age 19 in
the 17th century would have been way different from age 19 in the 20th.
Just as the things kids growing up in urban South African society are
expected to know are no doubt way different from kids growing up in
the States (witness the Americans who freaked out over a character
introduced to the S.A. version of Sesame Street). But I don't think
it would have made much of a difference to *Duncan*. He would still
have seen himself as the future head of the clan, and would probably
      have acted exactly the same.

      >Richie didn't seem all that interested in learning his new "trade".
      >(Which supports my theory that Richie hated and feared being Immortal
      >and subconsciously, or consciously, sought his own death right from
      >the first)

It could also just be a symptom of his life since his foster mother
died. It was all he ever knew, and whenever he was stressed out he'd
revert to what he knew. Like Duncan does when a female immie gives
      him hassles.

Richie didn't seem (to me) like he hated being Immortal. I think he
hated *some aspects* of it. Like having to chop people's heads off.
Having to carry a sword around all the time. Knowing that he might
have to kill somebody he cared about one day. As he said to Kenny,
he did like some parts. (Like keeping his hair forever.)

      >But Duncan didn't have anyone to tell him what had happened. Duncan
      >didn't know he might live forever. Richie knew all the possibilities
      >- both good and bad - from Day One.

And despite Methos telling Duncan how outdated the concept of chivalry
is, the man still doesn't listen! Why doesn't he? I mean, Methos is
like 4600 years older than him and should know these things!

      >Richie was being a good friend - if they were mortal friends. What
      >he couldn't seem to grasp was that he and Duncan were Immortals, that
      >heads could roll, and that Duncan had a propensity for going crackers
      >and trying to kill him<g>.

All that proves is that to maintain your health it's better to stay
the hell away from Duncan MacLeod.

      >As I said before, I don't think Richie ever fully came to terms with
      >his immortality and the reality of playing the Game. He wasn't raised
      >to kill people. He wasn't raised to kill people close up with a big
      >knife. He was a 20th century boy and the Game is very non-20th
      >century. Unlike a lot of Immortals from earlier ages, he had not
      >expected his life to be hard and brutal and filled with up-close-
      >and-personal death. He didn't adjust well. He didn't want to adjust.
      >He wanted to be mortal.

I don't agree with his wanting to be mortal (but I do agree with
not wanting to kill people). And, you know, there's nothing *wrong*
with not wanting to kill people. Some of the greatest activists of
the 20th century founded their lives on not killing people. (Trying
to avoid that Net problem of bringing up any names that signal the
death knell of any discussion. <g>) I *like* that Richie never
adjusted to killing people. Every immie duel he was in was a fair
fight and he won - but with the exception of Mako, he didn't *want*
to do it. Some people are warriors at heart - I agree that Richie
wasn't. Nick was - he became a cop, and then a detective. And he
decapitated a guy before he even *became* Immortal. (I liked that,
I have to admit.) But let's not disparage Richie for not wanting
to do that. And so yes, he died. But maybe better to die than to
turn into something you don't want to be. Death before dishonour. :)

And Duncan loved him. (Not, not that way, sheesh. You people need
to get your minds out of the gutter, you're crowding mine!) I think
that says more than anything else could.
