AP got a mention in the USA Weekend mag today (the Who's News page), as NOT
being up for the Bond role anytime soon, if ever. "Brosnan, 50, is Bond
'for the foreseeable future,' the producers say, despite the Internet
campaign touting Paul, 43." The blurb & the pic going w/ it were Brosnan
      all the way.

Interesting test--IS any publicity good publicity? At least the blurb didn't
disclose that the "campaign" was started by AP's official fan club.

_Die Another Day_ took in US$47 million over opening weekend, the best
      debut ever for the franchise.

Not bad for someone whose "passé".

Part of that money was mine, and it was money very well spent. It's a
fun movie with lots of nice nods to the previous Bonds. :-)

      Seriously. :-)

I never thought Adrian would make a good Bond, and Tracker sure didn't
change my mind. I think Brosnan is good at it, and I really enjoyed
watching him in Die, but Sean Connery will always be Bond for me.

Adrian's pretty, but he ain't no Connery. <g>

Too old? how old was Brosman?, only a few years younger than AP is now?

Yes, but if Brosnan does, say, two more Bond movies, at a minimum of two years
apart (and it would probably be more) then AP will be at least 47 or 48 by the
time the part is even open again (probably 49 by the time they start actually
filming), and I can't see the producers wanting someone that age. I imagine
they will look for someone under 40 at the time of casting.

Besides, Brosnan looks really good (more like 40 than 50, IMO) and it's not
difficult to picture him doing 3 or even 4 more movies instead of 2, and if
that happens, AP will be well over 50 by that time.

I used to be a huge Bond fan--saw all the films, read Fleming's novels (&
even John Gardner's novels), etc. But, then there were some duds, in my
opinion, & the past few films I didn't bother to see in theaters; when I
caught them on TV, they were rather pathetic. A tame, politically correct,
& health-conscious Bond is just sad--& boring. Guess I moved on.

I also don't see AP in the role. He's too old now to _start_ what should, in
fairness to all concerned, be planned as a run of several films over a
decade or 2. Plus--I can't imagine AP relishing the practical aspects of
playing Bond. Being caught up in that particular long-running franchise he
would have ZERO control or even input. He would just stand where told & say
what's written. Sure, he'd look good doing it, but that doesn't sound like
      him.

You know, I like the way you said that. I very much agree and my Bond
perceptions regarding AP have suddenly shifted. Thank you for the view
      MacWestie.
