*heeheehee* So now we'll know where to find *you*. ;-)

Seriously - other than what not to miss, how about passing some
wisdom and experience on to some of us first-timers? Etiquette
tips for HL Conventions? What to bring, what to not bother carrying
around? What To Do and What Not To Do? I suppose we all know
by now not to ask a GOH about fanfic, but what other tips can you
give us? (One that was passed on to me was, "Stock up on
portable foods like granola bars because if you stop for a meal,
      you'll miss something.")

I for one would appreciate any helpful hints or advice!!

We're sorry it's disappointing... but we don't have a lot of options
because of the logistics. Because she's only attending Saturday, as
are several other guests, we have very little flexibility as to the
programming in which she might be included.

Anyway, Tracy told us at Agamemcon that she's looking forward to
appearing at her first Highlander convention and to sharing the stage
      with other guest actors.

Keep hydrated. Drink, drink, drink. Hotels are notorious about having
dry air. And since you will probably be spending 24 hours a day in the
hotel for the entire convention - drink. (And know the locations of
      all the restrooms <g>)

Try to be very well rested when you are attending the convention. I
remember going to a PWFC meeting, and having to leave early because I
was VERY tired. About a half an hour later, Peter showed up...and he
      did the Chicken Dance.

Ah, yes, that was unforgettable and funny as anything. <g>

--Don't plan on any sleep. You sleep, you miss something.
--If you're prone to feeling anxious, insecure, and left out, try
to plan stuff ahead of time with other ppl so you're not
scrambling around trying to find someone to hang out with or eat
lunch with. It's a juggling act sometimes between wanting the
spontenaity of meeting new ppl. and worrying about spending the
whole con alone (that has never happened to me and I'm shy beyond
      belief :) ).
--Drink a lot of water. Think clean thoughts - er - never mind.
In recent years :::: thumping cane on Porch floor :::: most cons
have provided water in a number of places. Don't get dehydrated.
--The one thing you can't afford is shyness. Life's too danged
short. Talk to everybody - in the lines (if any), in the ladies'
room, at restaurants. Don't expect other ppl to make the
gesture, although in my experience others are as eager to get to
know other ppl and the result is an explosion of *FUN*. :)
--Eat light; eat often. Have a little protein with your junk
food. <g> Serously - don't eat just junk food - have the
occasional meal, even if it's a chef's salad and bowl of soup.
Bring a stash of non-perishables non-bug-attracting stuff. There
have been times when various hotels, out of sheer exhaustion and
sometimes sheer orneriness, have shut down restaurants and room
service. The first couple of cons I went to, I'd get back to my
room in the wee hours and my blood glucose would be taking a
nose-dive and there was *NOTHING TO EAT*. Packets of soup,
little thingys of cheese, crackers, granola bars, peanut butter,
apples - you get the idea. It is doubtful that you will gain
weight at the con - I've lost about 5 lbs most cons.
--Dress simply. Don't overpack, says the woman who took an
entire suitcase of 65 plastic katanas to Denver and had three
changes of clothing every day. <g> (Hey, Denver '96 you needed
it. It was over 80 in most parts of that hotel and you also got
overheated from dancing in the corner of the one by the stairs to
get it to move) Anyway, you need room in your suitcase for all
the junk you're going to buy in the Dealer's Room.
--Bring aspirin or whatever you take for headaches.
--If you're prone to migraines, you'll get one. Bring your meds.
      --Wear silly T-shirts.
      --Wear silly hats.
      --Wear bells-and-ribbons whenever possible.
--Check self-consciousness at the door. No matter how silly you
look or act :::: adjusting Viking helmet and Grumpy slippers and
waving blueplasticautographedkatana :::: someone's going to look
      sillier. :)
--Don't expect to spend personal time with the GOH's. Except for
certain notable gatherings in bars, it ain't gonna happen.
      Respect their privacy.
      --Go to a lot of the behind-the-scenes events. AP's Q&A's are a
hoot, but I've had an absolute blast at many of the
      writers/tie-in/demo/behind-the-scenes things.
--If you're at all susceptible to spending sprees, lock up your
      credit card. <g>
--Expect to have the time of your life, and let your experience
      exceed expectations.

I remember moaning about how the only thing missing from the perfection that
was the Anaheim Con was the absence of Tracy on the Guest List. And then,
sitting in the bar outside the hotel restaurant, I suddenly realized that the

Scoggins. She said hi to everyone outside, then went in for the cast/crew

      And Debbie D. wisely advises:

      >Keep hydrated. Drink, drink, drink. Hotels are notorious about having
      >dry air. And since you will probably be spending 24 hours a day in the

This is extremely important. While at G5, (which was held in Denver,
which will suck every drop of moisture from your body _except_ for
your bladder)(and doesn't it seem unfair that one can be deathly
thirsty and still have to whiz like a racehorse?), La Belle Femme
Vickita saved me from imminent embarrassment when a session let out
and the nearest restrooms were stampeded. Usually I don't have to
think about such things, but we'd been swigging water all day in an
attempt to avoid dehydration and I was in desperate straits.
Fortunately, our intrepid Vic had scoped out all available WC's in
the common area and knew of a little noticed one tucked away only one
floor away. With my trusty guide leading the way, we arrived with
seconds to spare and not a fellow congoer in sight. Which was good,
      because, remember, _seconds_ to spare!

I really like ZK's advice. One note:

      > Bring a stash of non-perishables non-bug-attracting stuff. There

      > sometimes sheer orneriness, have shut down restaurants and room

Bringing some of your own favorite snacks is good if there's room in
the luggage and you aren't prohibited by customs, etc. But the Westin
does have 24 hour room service (although in very late hours the menu
may be scaled back), and there's an AM/PM mini-market just across the
street. Although we'd recommend that late at night you take a friend
if you leave the hotel, there should be some sort of food/snack
      accessible 24 hours a day.

A little flip-size notebook that you can tuck in your purse/fanny pack/back
pocket is indispensable for jotting down room numbers where your friends
are staying. (Doesn't hurt to write down your own room number
either....says she who *completely* forgot where she was staying her first
night at one of the cons.)

      And quote books!

People say the best things at cons<g> - and these things need to
be written down and reported to the world at large so we can laugh
      at them too!

Yep. The most important thing to bring is a positive attitude. Everyone
is there because they want to have fun, and the con organizers want that
too. Expect there will be some minor problems; long lines, elevators not
working, a bathroom ceiling falls on your roommate, a GOH is late. Decide
ahead of time these glitches aren't important & you're not going to let
them spoil your good time. It's next to impossible for a large number of
people to get together for a weekend without some small
difficulties. Don't sweet the small stuff 'cause really isn't
      important. Attitude is everything.

If you take ZK's advice you'll have a blast.
