I don't know what the heck is going on with James Bond speculation, but
there's been a ton of it recently. There have been stories in the media in
the last few days suggesting several guys, including Jeremy Northam and
Colin Firth. So I doubt any of it until I hear a decision has been
      made. :)

The newspapers do this all the time - they note that the
contract was for 3 movies, he's done 3 movies, so who
else might be up for it?

Just to add to this. Having spoken to Brosnan personally, I can say that
that he had an initial three film contract (covering GoldenEye, Tommorrow
Never Dies and The Wolrd is Not Enough). He has sinced signed on to do
another Bond film and as both sides are happy with the arrangement, both he
and EON assume that he will probably be in the role for this film and AT
LEAST one more. EON are forward planners and whenever they talk to another
male actor about Bond, the tabloids love to speculate that he's the next
one. Gerard Butler (think Wolverine/Dugray Scott type) who also stars in
Dracula 2001 (pretty terrible, but nice twist to the tale and set in my
favourite New Orleans) may well have met with EON at some point. He's a nice
guy and we'll have an interview in Impact in the next couple of months!

Incidentally, did anyone realise that Christopher Lambert was considered for
the role of James Bond at one point? John Glen (who directed five Bond
movies) reveals that nugget in his soon-to-be released autobiography (thanks
to Batsford for the advance copy!). Of course, as soon as they heard the
accent....never mind! :) Glen eventually directed Lambert in the upcoming
      The Point-Men.

I don't know what the Daily Record is - is that where iwon.com gets info like
this? Anyway, here's the rest of the article - twas rather silly of me not
      to send the whole thing:

The strapping, 6-foot-2 stud was last seen in the title role of the USA cable
miniseries "Attila" and last year starred in "Wes Craven's Dracula 2000," in
which he has a steamy, nude sex scene. If chosen, Butler, 31, would be the
second Scot to play the jet-setting super-spy who beds scores of beautiful
women while saving the world from evil. The original Bond was a Scot - Sean
Connery. Brosnan's contract expires after his fourth Bond flick, which is to
begin filming in January, and producer Barbara Broccoli is anxious to nail
down his successor. "Gerard is one of the two people Barbara has appointments
with. They are meeting to discuss replacing Pierce," a source told the
newspaper. Besides Butler, Broccoli will also meet with Colin Wells, who was
Brosnan's stand-in and appeared with Anthony Hopkins in "Titus," the
newspaper says. But Butler is believed to have the inside track, and he
already has practiced for the role - having played a hero in real life. While
filming the 1997 film "Mrs. Brown," he was enjoying a lakeside picnic with
his mom when they heard the piercing screams of a young boy about to drown.
Butler dived into the water fully clothed and pulled the panicked youngster
to safety - then shyly said his brave deed was something anybody would have
done. The dark-haired heartthrob has already made one short appearance in the
Bond series, playing a seaman in "Tomorrow Never Dies." He's now in Ireland
shooting the fantasy epic "Reign of Fire," with Matthew McConaughey.
