This is a sequel to For the Love of Devon.

********************* Highlander's Daughter Part 1 **************************

Devon moaned as the jangling cry of her alarm clock woke her from a deep
slumber. Her hand slapped clumsily about, searching for the evil machine.
Finding it, she slammed the button marked "snooze" and drifted back to sleep.
Ten minutes later, she went through the same thing, but instead of dozing
off again, she lay awake, staring at her ceiling. Another day of boredom.
She did not know why she expected immortality to be so exciting, it never was.
Devon had expected the bad guys to come crawling out of the woodwork, but
she had not even met another immortal in three years, let alone fought one. Oh
sure, she had seen Connor a few times, but he was not anyone *new*. She
did not really want to fight anyone, she guessed, but she would have liked
someone to talk to , someone who understood. Someone like Duncan.

No, never someone like Duncan.

It took her about an hour to get ready, then she was off to her thrilling
job as box office manager at the Ford's Theatre in downtown Houston. She
loved her job when there was a show on, but during rehearsals, life
settled into a depressingly dull routine.

"Hey Devon, how's it going?" The handsome stage manager of the current
production of _Broadway Bound_ waved cheerily. Devon waved back, just a
little less enthusiastic.

"Fine, Nick. And you?"

"Great, as always." Devon had to smile at that. Nothing ever seemed to
bother Nick Chaney, that was what made him such a terrific stage manager.
It also helped that he was as beautiful as a Greek god, people were ususally
too busy drooling to argue with him. He had arrived at the theatre only
a couple days after Devon, so they had formed an instant commraderie as the
new kids. "Are you going to that party at Sara's tomorrow night?"

"I don't know, I've been kinda tired lately. It'll depend on how I feel."

"Oh come on, Dev. I'll make it worth your while."

Devon's eyes widened at the blatant innuendo. While jokes of a provocative
nature were common in the theatre, Nick's tone and expression were a tad too
serious to be casual teasing. "Okay then, we'll see." Devon responded, still
surprised. His smile broadened then, his eyes holding her captive. Then
he turned and was gone. Maybe the day was picking up, she thought happily.

"I thought I told you not to get too close. What were you thinking, asking
her to that party?"

"She was thinking of not going. I thought it was 'of utmost importance'
that she be there."

A heavy sigh. "Well, you're right, but this is still going to be a problem.
Now she thinks you're interested in her romantically..."

"I am."

"No you are not! If you touch her, you will be dismissed! Or worse.
Do I make myself clear?"

A silence. "Perfectly. Sir."

"Good. Now get out. You have a date to plan."

A slamming of the door, followed by a low chuckle. "Watch your head."
