Any comments, suggestions, corrections, or complaints should be E-mailed to haden@okstate.edu. The most-complete newest update of the List can always be requested from me directly. The Immortals List can also be found at the Mithral Highlander web page: http://www.highlander.org/ An official Watcher Chronicle CD-ROM database was recently released through the Highlander Store. This CD is similar to the one seen in the episodes "Finale" and "Finale II". I have not yet seen it personally, but I've been told that it contains detailed info on Immortals in the TV series, with plenty of new info for them. It's not 100% accurate, and far from being complete. For that reason, I will continue to maintain my own Immortals List, which I strive to keep as complete and accurate as possible. This list may be useful to those who want to spot any errors that show up in the *official* listing of Immortals on the CD. A full-blown Highlander Role-Playing Game is also set for release in the near future and will probably coincide with the info in the CD, but will most likely be incomplete and inconsistent as well. Immortals from HIGHLANDER: THE ANIMATED SERIES, early drafts of the movie scripts, and any fan-written stories based on the movies, cartoon, or tv series are not included in this list. However, this is subject to change depending on the fans' viewpoint of what is or isn't considered "canon" in the Highlander Universe. Information from final shooting scripts for the films (not early drafts) *is* used for this list (ie. Nakano the Sorceror's age). The HIGHLANDER novelization by Garry Douglas, based on the first film, is also used (I personally believe it is borderline canon except for a couple of inconsistencies, and it is largely based on the screenplay for the film). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [2.0] WHAT'S NEW? New additions in version 8.1: - #6 Yung Dol Kim gets promoted from the 'Other Immortals' list to the official Immortals List. Congratulations! - "Watchers List" info added to section [4E] - Season 4 Immortals added: Andrew Donnelly, Jacob Galati - Season 5 Immortals added: Morgan D'Estaing, Cassandra, Roland Kantos, Carter Wellan, Haresh Clay, Trey Franks, and Johnny Kelly - Immortals from the new novel _Scotland the Brave_: James Douglas, Hugh O'Neill, Chang, and "Duncan's First" - Additional info added to: #21 Darius, #25 Xavier, #44 Annie Devlin, #45 Carl Robinson, #105 Hamza, #145 Sean Burns, #149 Jean Philippe, #151 "The Vegas Immortal", and #152 Warren Cochrane - Other Immortals added: General Katana, Corda and Reno! - Historical tie-in for #21 "The Good Immortal" - [4B] Short Episode Listing updated ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [3.0] THE KEY Here's what each line for an Immortal entry means: Name of Immortal SI: -see below- [Name of Actor/Actress] AGE: -see below- STATUS: -see below- KM: Known Mentors (Immortals or Mortals who trained them to fight) KA: Known aliases, nicknames, or titles W: Swords or other weapons used currently or in flashbacks (FB#) = flashback in ep.#, (TV#) = present day in ep.#, not flashback BD: Brief Description of what is known about the Immortal ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The 'SI:' line tells what films, tv episodes, or books the character can be seen or mentioned in. H1 = Highlander (the first movie) HTV-# = Highlander: The Series (# denotes series episode number). H3 = Highlander III: The Sorceror/The Final Dimension HLCG = Highlander: The Card Game (info on the persona cards) HN1 = Highlander novel: _The Element of Fire_ by Jason Henderson HN2 = Highlander novel: _Scimitar_ by Ashley McConnell HN3 = Highlander novel: _Scotland the Brave_ by Jennifer Robertson I label TV series episodes as "HTV-#" (ie. HTV-26). The numbering system represents the last 1 or 2 digits of the production number, as seen in the end credits of each episode. See the Short Episode Listing in section III-B as a reference. 'STATUS' tells whether they are currently ALIVE or DEAD. If listed as DEAD, it also tells who or what beheaded them and when it happened. 'AGE' tells how old they are based on "canon" information given. "Unknown" means that no facts have been given to make an estimated guess for their age. The "AL." notation means that they are AT LEAST x number of years old. They could be older, but we're not sure. The "c." before the age means that they are AROUND x number of years old, give or take a few years. For the estimated ages, an estimated body age (the age of the person when he is first mortally wounded and becomes Immortal) is added into the total estimated age. In example, if an Immie looks to be around 30 years old and we know that he was at least around since the American Civil War, it would say "AL.165". 1996 minus 1861 (first year of Civil War) = 135, plus 30 years = 165. That's the best I can do for estimating their age. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [4.0] MISCELLANEOUS INFO ABOUT THE IMMORTALS LIST [4A] UNKNOWN INFO The term "unknown" doesn't necessarily mean there is no information to give an answer. It could mean that I just haven't bothered to research for the answer yet. If you have information that can fill in the "unknown" spaces in the list, please feel free to share it with me. [4C] LITTLE RICHARD Richie Ryan is seen in MOST of the episodes of Highlander: The Series. However, he did not become an Immortal until episode 26. Before that, he was a Pre-Immortal and it was never blatantly stated he was a potential Immortal until he became one in ep. 26. His 'SEEN IN' listing is of the episodes he's seen in *after* he became an Immortal. [4D] THE WEAPONS The Weapons information is extremely out of date. It currently goes up to episode HTV-62 ("Testimony") and all Immortal weapon info after that episode is listed as "unknown". I'll get around to updating them one of these days, with the help of Diana Waldier of Swordmasters. [4E] THE WATCHERS During Seasons 3 and 4 of Highlander: The Series, the names of the Watchers for some Immortals were revealed. Those Immortals are as follows: Duncan MacLeod, Brian Cullen, Xavier St. Cloud, Annie Devlin, Kalas, Martin Hyde, Amanda, Mei-Ling Shen, Michael Christian, Jackson Trent, Felice Martin, Grayson, Darius, Gabriel Piton, Luther, Carl Robinson, Liza Grant, Roy Ferrer, Alexandra Racine, Robert Watson, Boris Ulov, Nicholas Ward, Herbert Gris, Kiem Sun, Andrew Kord, and Simon Killian. Since an Immortal may have several different Watchers watching him/her throughout their lifetime and since I don't have the names of Watchers for every single Immortal, I have decided not to list "Known Watchers". However, there is a Watchers List maintained by Cynthia Shettle and can be found at: http://www.tiac.net/users/frj/shettle.html [4F] THE NEW YORK MINI-GATHERING OF 1985 For some of the Immortals listed which were seen in the first Highlander film, I may mention an event called the "New York Mini-Gathering of 1985". This is kind of a joke, poking fun at the continuity error between the first film and the TV series, both of which are included in this list. This list goes by the TV series continuity rule that says in 1985 Connor MacLeod and the Kurgan weren't the last two Immortals and Connor did not win the Prize. He simply experienced one extremely powerful Quickening from the Kurgan, who was one of the oldest living Immortals. This rule can also work for Highlander 3, in which we can say that Kane and Connor were also not the last two Immies, and while they were fighting in New York in late 1994, our pal Duncan was over in Seacouver dealing with Kern, Michelle Webster, and Brian Cullen. If you disagree with this logic, then just laugh it off and don't complain to me. I can't help it if the Highlander Universe is so inconsistent and contradictory. As Ramirez would say... "Accept it." :D [4G] SEACOUVER The term "Seacouver", which is sometimes mentioned in the descriptions of Immortals from the TV series, is a fan-made name for the city in which Duncan MacLeod lives in when not living in Paris. The TV show is filmed in Vancouver, B.C. but many times hints at being Seattle or some other city in Washington state, hence the name "Seacouver". [4H] K'IMMIES The term "K'immie" has been recently coined by fans to refer to the stereotypical names of many Immortals (usually evil, but not always) whose name (first, last, or single) begins with the letter "K" or a K-sounding letter such as "C" or "Q". At last count, 46 of the 136 known Immortals are K'immies. The official ones are: Kurgan, Kane, Sunda Kastagir, Kiem Sun, Kuyler, Michael Kent, Kern, Paul Karros, Kenneth, David Keogh, Lyman Kurlow, Khordas, Kristov, Lucas Kagan, Kalas, Hamza El Kahir, "John Kirin", Tyler King, Andrew Kord, Kanwulf, Peter Kanis, Kit O'Brady, Kristin Gilles, Terence Kincaid, Simon Killian, Kamir, Yung Dol Kim, Fritz Kriegle, "Victor Kruger", Horvan Kant, Bryce Korland, Kol T'ek, and Kassim. The other honorable mentions ("C" and "Q" names) are as follows: Connor MacLeod, Slan Quince, Howard Crowley, Caleb Cole, Carl, Carlos Sendaro, Alfred Cahill, "Quenten Barnes", Carl Robinson, Marcus Constantine, Brian Cullen, Benny Carbassa, David Cole, Michael Christian, Cage, Ceirdwyn, "David Carruthers", Claudia Jardine, and "Jim Coltec". The stereotype has been strongest this season, with nearly every Immortal so far having a K-name. It was explained by the writers and producers at the Gathering II convention that this sterotype is deliberate, especially for evil Immies. Apparently, villians have traditionally had K-names in other fictional genres throughout the years. [4I] THE STORY OF THE METHUSELAH STONE The Methuselah Stone is the legendary crystal that Rebecca Horne kept for centuries and divided into small pieces that she gave to each of her students when it was their time to go on their own. According to Immortal legend, this crystal would increase an Immortal's power 10-fold, thus making them invulnerable. It was for this reason that the Immortal Luther tried to gain all the pieces by killing Rebecca and her students one by one in early 1994. He almost put all the pieces together, but Amanda managed to keep the last one (originally given to Henri Valjean). After Luther was gone, the Watchers recovered all the pieces he had obtained, and secured them in the Watchers' Headquarters in Paris. In early 1996, the Immortal Methos used his status as Watcher "Adam Pierson" to research the crystal. He learned that it was actually "Methuselah's Stone", the mystical talisman owned by the ancient biblical figure Methuselah who lived to be 969 years old and is known in history to be the oldest living mortal man. Methuselah gave the stone to his grandson Noah, who used it to survive the Great Flood aboard the Ark. (** Keep in mind that all this is fiction and does not apply to actual biblical and/or historical facts! It's just part of the Highlander TV universe). The stone's true power, according to the Watchers, is to grant Immortality to the _mortal_ that has it. It supposedly does nothing for the _Immortals_. Methos, with the help of Amanda, stole the crystal from the Watchers' Headquarters so that he could give it to his dying mortal love Alexa and save her from death. They didn't accomplish this, and now all the pieces of the Methuselah Stone, except one which Amanda still has, are in the bottom of the Seine river in Paris. Perhaps Methos or other Immortals will attempt to recover it again in the future.... [4J] OTHER IMMORTALS The listing of Other Immortals at the end of this file is an addendum to the Immortals List. All of them are classified as "borderline canon", meaning that some people may argue whether they really existed or not. They are not counted in the official tally of known Immortals since their existence is questionable or there is little we know about them. A group of Immortals with a common trait (such as all being killed by the same person, or having the same mentor) is listed here too because we know nothing about them or even how many were in that group. [4K] THE OLDEST KNOWN IMMORTALS By the requests of some HL fans, here is a brief listing of the oldest known Immortals (Over 1000 years old): Methos (AL.5000), Nefertiri (c.3224), The Kurgan (c.3000), Khordas (AL.2600), Tak Ne/Ramirez (2437), Nerissa (AL.2240), Marcus Constantine (AL.2070), Paul Karros (c.2100), Darius (c.2000), Ceirdwyn (c.1960), Grayson (c.1800), Rebecca Horne (AL.1200), Amanda (c.1175) There's also "The Good Immortal" which is either AL.1400, or AL.3600 if Methos was considered to be real at the time. [4L] THE OFFICIAL TALLY As of the date when this list was last updated, there are currently 145 Immortals which have been seen or mentioned in the films, TV series, books, or card game. 30 of them are still alive, and the other 112 have been beheaded. There may be more out there, but in the end, there can be only one... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [5.0] THE IMMORTALS LIST 1. When his father bashed his head in with a rock, the Kurgan became Immortal. He killed his father in revenge and then went off to join a group of bandits that raided caravans. He eventually encountered another Immortal, a Bedouin Arab who taught him about what he was. The Kurgan soon beheaded his mentor and began travelling across Africa, then Europe and Asia, killing both mortals and Immortals in his quest to obtain the Prize. Over the centuries, he has fought with the Mongols and Goths, among others, and has become one of the strongest and most powerful Immortals to ever live. The Kurgan wounded Connor MacLeod in the battle between the Frasiers and the MacLeods in 1536, making MacLeod an Immortal. The Kurgan met his fate in 1985 when Connor MacLeod took his head. 4. During the 1980s he was a ruthless businessman on Wall Street and was indicted for swindling money from people. To avoid going to jail, he faked his death in 1989 after confronting MacLeod once again at a New Years Eve party. In present day, Kalas used the information from a Watcher to find Methos, but Duncan MacLeod found him first. Methos has been posing as a Watcher for the last 10 years and is currently a grad-student at a university in Paris working on the "Methos Chronicle". He first beheaded another Immortal around 5000 years ago, and he can't remember much about his life before then. His origins are unknown, but its likely that he came from an Indo-European people. ** HISTORICAL TIE-IN: Fans have suggested that the name "Methos" might have been derived from the biblical figure Methuselah, the legendary oldest living man. According to the Bible, Methuselah was the son of Enoch and grandfather of Noah (of the Ark). Methuselah lived for 969 years. The name "Methuselah", which means "Man of the Dart", has been used before in literature as a common epithet for a very old man. After seeing the episode "Methuselah's Stone", it is clear that Methos is not intended to be the same person as Methuselah, but it's likely the tv series writers originally derived the character's name from "Methuselah". 99. All of these Immortals are classified as "borderline canon", meaning that some people may argue whether they really existed or not. They are not counted in the official tally of known Immortals since their existence is questionable or there is little we know about them. A group of Immortals with a common trait (such as all being killed by the same person, or having the same mentor) is listed here too because we know nothing about them or even how many were in that group. - "The Arab" A Bedouin; Kurgan's mentor; later killed by the Kurgan sometime in the 900s BC. [From Highlader novelization] - "The Mongol" [From HL novelization] Killed by the Kurgan in the steppes of Russia sometime in the early the 1500s. [From HL novelization] - "The Rogue" The Immortal that was holding captive a woman Ramirez loved and sought to rescue [From an expanded version of the story Ramirez told Heather MacLeod in 1541, in Highlander novelization] - General Katana A 540 year-old Immortal who seeks to destroy Connor MacLeod in the future year 2024 AD. This mentally deranged psychotic suffers from brief hallucinations in which he sometimes sees a giant red shield covering the Earth's sky or thinks he sees an Immortal named Ramirez whom he once met in the early 1500s. Katana's delusions also make him believe that he comes from another planet called Zeist! He was easily killed by Connor, who found the guy to be somewhat disturbed. [From HL2 and HLCCG, but mostly from my own sense of humor. ;D] - Corda and Reno Two young Immortals who were found and trained by General Katana and practically brainwashed into his way of thinking after years and years of learning from the General. Both were sent to find and destroy Connor MacLeod in New York, 2024 AD, but Connor beheaded both of the screaming lunatics. [From a really bad sequel! ;D] - Reinhardt's Kills An unknown number of Immortals killed by Walter Reinhardt up until his faked death in 1989. These Immortals were on a list hidden in his desk. After his mortal fiance found the list she tried to track down all the people on it. All of them except Duncan MacLeod had been killed by a sword. [From ep."Revenge is Sweet": mentioned in dialogue] - Darius' Students An unknown number of Immortals killed by Grayson in 1992 in an attempt to lure Darius off holy ground in Paris to fight him. Grayson also killed some of Darius' *mortal* students, but those need not be counted. [From ep."Band of Brothers": mentioned in dialogue] - Horton's Kills An unknown number of Immortals, besides Thackary, who were presumably killed by James Horton and his band of renegade Watchers in early 1993. Their Quickenings were forever lost to the world. [From ep."The Hunters": mentioned in dialogue] - Pallin's Kills An unknown number of Immortals, besides James, who were presumably killed by the renegade Watcher Pallin Wolf in late 1993. Their Quickenings were forever lost to the world. [From ep."The Darkness"] - Rebecca's Students An unknown number of Immortals, besides Luther, Amanda, and Henri Valjean, who were proteges of Rebecca Horne through the centuries. Each carried a piece of Rebecca's legendary crystal and all were killed by Luther, except for Amanda and Valjean. [From ep."Legacy": Judging by the size of the crystal and the number of fragments during 853 AD. there were probably over a dozen students in total] - Axel's Girls An unknown number of inexperienced Immortal females, besides Sharon, who were used as "bait" so he could kill male Immortals. [From ep."Rite of Passage": mentioned in dialogue] - "Methos' Last" The last Immortal beheaded by Methos around 200 years ago. Possibly one we already know of from Duncan's flashbacks, but more likely an Immie we know nothing about, and never will. [From ep."Methos", mentioned in dialogue] Technically, this is now the second-to-last Immie he beheaded, since Methos just killed Kristin Gilles. - Kristin's Kills A number of Immortals killed by Kristin Gilles over the centuries. There were quite a few of them, according to Methos. [From ep."Chivalry", mentioned in dialogue] - Xavier's Kills A small number of immortals killed by Xavier St. Cloud in the city of Marakesh in 1653. [From novel "Scimitar"] - Kant's Kills 10 unknown Immortals killed by Horvan Kant since 1990. [From ep."Something Wicked"] [The following Immortal info was leaked out by someone at Thunder Castle Games. These are likely to be used in future expansions of the Highlander Card Game, role-playing game, or Watcher's CD] - "Drucilla the Great" A sword swallower in the circus; mentor of Zachary Blaine. - Osaga Native American Iroquois warrior; mentor of Carl the hermit. - Charles of A Frenchman; mentor of Grace Chandler. Strasbourg - Goodman Fletcher Mentor of Caleb Cole. - Wayne Guthrie American, possibly southerner; mentor of Howard Crowley. - Xerxes A Parthian; mentor of Darius. - Ashley Wilkinson Mentor of Lucas Desiree. - Marie de Valicourt A Frenchwoman; mentor of Claude Devereux. - Andrew Holt Unknown Immortal (possibly Andrew Ballin?). - Gianni Fabiano An Italian; mentor of Andrew Holt/Ballin. - Gaius Septimus A Roman; mentor of Marcus Korolus. - Fritz Kriegle Mentor of Christoph Kuyler. - Pierre Bedard A Frenchman; mentor of Felice Martin; later killed by Felice. - Dennis Vachon Mentor of Gabriel. - Albert Munze A German; mentor of Walter Reinhardt. - Javier Valdez A Spaniard; mentor of Carlos Sendaro - Zoran Jancovic A Russian; mentor of Alexei Voshin *END OF LIST* (Strange how this LIST is starting to look more and more like a FAQ!)
