Shae had told Duncan there was no reason why Richie should not know the truth about her and her situation, so she explained it to him during their chat. "So you never know when it's coming?" Richie asked. "It just hits you?" Shae toyed with her cup. "Yes, for the most part. Except sometimes... There's a particular shade of red, for example, that always causes a flash. If I see someone wearing it, I have to look away, or else it just drags me down." Duncan studied her a moment. "And the swords? Does it always happen when you touch a sword?" She nodded. "It doesn't matter what kind, or who it belongs to; the images will *always* come from the swords. But only if I touch it, with my hands. Not with the gloves." Duncan thought for a minute. He'd played this over and over in his mind, and he kept coming up with the same bizarre conclusion, a conclusion he did not want to think about. It just wasn't possible, it *couldn't* be. He pushed the thought from his mind. "I think we all had better get some sleep," he said aloud. "I want you and Richie to get started first thing tomorrow." Richie groaned loudly and left to go home. "*I* want to see if you're as good as everyone says you are, Duncan," Shae answered. "Maybe. Try to get some sleep, okay?" Shae tapped her lower lip with her thumb in a contemplative gesture. "And if I have another nightmare? Then what?" Duncan squeezed her hand. "I'll be right outside your door." ********** further parts will be forthcoming my fingers hurt from typing.... =========================================================================
