Lavey" Subject: "The Third Disk" part 5 I'm sorry it took me so long to get part five posted. I've been sicker than a dog. So here's part five!! If you're missing parts one-four, please e-mail me at nagem352@wsnet.com. I check my mail there much more often than here. Megan Methos wound Duncan's car through the city streets, looking for signs of Kandish. He glanced at the young Immortal sitting next to him. He thought of all the stuff he had seen from Richie from the short time he'd known him, but could identify with him even after 5,000 years. Methos gave thought to their situation. Undoubtedly, if they didn't stop him, Kandish would be after him. He would then find out that he was his own Watcher, Adam Pierson. Better tell Richie this fact before he gives it away, he thought. "Hey, Richie," Methos said. "Figured you ought know something?" Richie kept looking out the window. The last thing he really wanted to do was to be in the same car with the man who had killed Kristin. But hey, you have to do something you don't like every once in awhile. "What?" "If anyone asks you if you know Adam Pierson, don't mention my real name, especially to another Watcher." That was curious, thought Richie. "How come?" "Because I'm a Watcher. I watch myself. Only Duncan, Joe, and Amanda know this." "How come you're watching yourself?" "Has Duncan or Joe told you of the Methos Chronicles?" "Yeah." "I heard that the Watchers wanted to do this. So I figured who better to do the Methos Chronicles than Methos himself?" "Why are you telling me this?" "Because if Mac's plan doesn't work, then I plan on setting you and me up as the bait, Richie. Someone's got to stop Kandish before we lose anymore Watchers or Immortals." The two were silent for awhile, then Richie spoke up about something that had been bugging him for the entire trip. "Why'd you kill Kristin?" he asked Methos. Oh great, Methos thought. I was waiting for this. "It's hard to explain, Richie." "No it isn't. You've been around for a long time, I figured you'd know how to explain this." A beat. "Well, Mac wouldn't kill her. He was born in the age of chilvary, like the Knights of the Round Table and all that other stuff legends are made of. He has a sense of honor that you and I will never have because of the situations we were brought up in. It was also obvious that you couldn't kill her, so I had to." "Why? She could have changed." "Richie, you're too young to understand." Richie leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms. "You sound just like Mac." "Well, maybe you ought to listen to him. Richie, you may have been extremely happy if Kristin got away with her head, but what would you have thought if she turned right around and got your head? How would you feel then? She's been around long enough to change. The only way you can change is if you want to change. Kristin didn't want to change." "Well, Amanda didn't change until a couple of years ago." "That's different. She wasn't evil. Just think about that for awhile." Richie looked out the window and noticed the Eiffel Tower. He also noticed some action in front of it as well. "Hey, there's Mac and Amanda! Wow, look at them go!" Methos stopped the car and looked where Richie was indicating. Grinning, he turned the headlights on high beam and aimed them at the couple. He then started honking the horn while Richie cheered out the window. I've been around 5,000 years and I'm acting like a teenager, Methos thought. Kind of refreshing. The bright lights blinded Duncan and Amanda. They sprang apart when a car horn bellowed at them. Looking behind them, they saw Richie and Methos caught up in their little act. Groaning, they headed towards the car. "Hi," Richie and Methos said, with cheerful grins. "Just be grateful you have your heads," Amanda muttered. Duncan just gave his friends a look and jerked one of the car doors open for Amanda, then climbed in after her. "Did you find anything new?" he asked. Methos pulled back out into the traffic. "No, but I did contact Joe. He's meeting Connor at Shakespeare and Co. We're beginning to think Kandish fled France, though. If so, we came here for nothing....well, almost nothing," he grinned at Duncan and Amanda. The looks they gave Methos made Richie start laughing. Then he looked out the window. "Hey, look!" he called. Methos stopped the car and everyone climbed out to se streaks of lightening in the sky about a half mile away. It looked like the lightening was coming from the direction of Shakespeare & Co. The four Immortals stared at each other, climbed back in the car, and took off in the direction of the bookstore. Shakespeare & Co. Connor quickly slipped in the back door of Shakespeare and Co. without being noticed. Joe had mentioned that there might still be some stuff hidden on Donald Saltzer s hard drive, and he wanted to make sure everything was erased. It was the job Claude had never finished, thanks to Kandish. Knowing Joe wouldn t be there for at least a few more minutes, Connor took a book from one of the shelves and began to read. About fifteen minutes later, Connor heard the lock on the front door click. He quickly hid himself among the books, and watched Joe walk in. When he didn t receive the Buzz, Connor stepped out into the open. "You think you were followed?" he asked. "No, I don t think so," Joe gave a short laugh. "The Immortals watching the Watcher. How much weirder can things get?" "Not much. We haven t heard much from Kandish lately, have we?" "No. Methos and I are starting to think that he fled the country. I got bulletins out to all the major Watcher stations in the world to possibly be on the lookout for him." "If we re lucky." Both men sat at the computer and stared at the screen for awhile, thinking. Finally, Joe spoke up. "It all boils down to one point, doesn t it?" "Who wins the Prize? Yeah." "And that disk is the one way ticket for getting ahead in that area. Last time, the disk was nearly released to the public." "That would make for quite a witch hunt. Think he d do that?" "You know what Mac said. He d only give himself away. What would he have to gain from this?" Joe thought for a moment. "What would you do if someone gave you that disk? The one way ticket to winning the Prize. What would you do with it?" Connor stared down at his hands. "I honestly don t know. I hope I never have to find out. I guess I d trash it." Joe looked out the window. "Three good Watchers and three Immortals. How many more have to go before we can stop this?" Suddenly, an explosion occurred behind them. Joe and Connor whirled around in horror to see the abandoned building across the street burst into flames. Rocks and other debris flew threw the window of the bookstore. Connor suddenly felt the Buzz and saw a figure standing in front of the burning building. "Get down!" Connor yelled to Joe, then ran out the front door. He saw the figure running towards an alley. He drew his sword and quickly followed. The figure reached the dead end of the alley as Connor reached him. "Kandish, stop!" Kandish halted and turned around. "You mean I blew up the wrong building? Damn." But they both knew that he had blown up the right building. "Why d you do that?" "Just a little warning to you. Next time, the building will have your friends in it." "Not if you re dead before then. Come out and fight!" "Fine with me," Kandish stepped into the light to see his opponent better. "You know, I should have expected MacLeod to send someone to fight for him." "It depends on which MacLeod you re referring to," Connor said. "Although last time I looked, the MacLeods did their own fighting. So, are we going to talk, or are we going to fight?" "It ll be my pleasure to fight," Kandish said, advancing toward Connor.
