Urgent voices?! *Blackness* Head fuzzy..... less light..... quiet voices..... *Blackness* I opened my eyes to the unknown. I could hear quiet voices somewhere. I knew I was laying in a bed and was covered by a blanket but couldn't see anythng. I raised my hand, but found it wouldn't move. It was being held by something. It was also wrapped in something. Then I realized that my whole body, head to foot, was wrapped in something?!? Taking inventory of my body was difficult because my brain felt like it was full of cotton. Couldn't seem to concentrate on anythng for long. I felt very tired so I slept. I awoke again. My head was still fuzzy but better than before. I was moving. I could here muffled voices around me talking but couldn't make out much. I then felt myself stop and be lifted onto something cooler. Now that I could concentrate I took inventory of myself. My body felt stiff but workable. The frightening thing I found was I couldn't remember who I was! * What is my name? Where am I? Where am I from? What happened to me? * About this this time I started to panic! I tried to move and scream. Being wrapped up prevented this but did get a reaction from someone around me. I started to here a frantic voice yell something. Hands started to restrain me. The more they restrained, the more I thrashed. I felt a slight prick in my left arm and I soon felt numb. I was still awake enough to feel the wrapping around my face loosen. The light was getting brighter and I could make out the voices better. There was a female voice right over me and a males voice off to my right. "I want the tub prepped NOW! I also want the oxygen ready for a full submersion of the patient." she said "Yes Doctor" was the males reply "Nurse, inform Doctor Jones that the patients medication has to be increased to prevent his waking in the future." the woman said "Yes maam" was the reply from someone else. At this time the wrappings were off and I saw a woman, about 35 years old with short black hair looking down on me. She looked at me with astonishment and and gasped "Oh my god!" just before the blackness took me...... I awoke to find a nurse taking my pulse. "Is there a doctor here?" I asked. "Yes, I'll get Dr. Crowly immediately." she stated (slightly startled) before leaving the room. Alone, I found myself in a bed in a single room. I wasn't wrapped up anymore but did have a thin sheet over my body. The rooms lights where dimmed and the window shade was down. I was hooked up to a monitor to my left and had and IV stuck in the arm. The room itself was pretty bare except for the monitor and my bed the only other piece of furniture was a table on my right. I then tried to remember why I was here but came up blank. I stll couldn't even remeber my name. Trying to think back, I couldn't remember a whole lot. About 10 minutes later the nurse came back with the woman wth black hair. She was about 5'7" with wireframe glasses, about 30-35. The woman went right to the monitor and checked the IV in my arm. She then looked to the nurse who only shrugged. "Hello sir, I'm Doctor Crowly" she introduced "hello doctor" was my reply "Could I have your name please?" she asked "I was about to ask you the same thing" I smirked "Oh, do you remember anythng?" she asked "Not a whole hell'va lot" I repled "Well" she sad "you are in Brigham & Womens hospital n Boston Massachuesets. You came in two days ago after you were in and accident." "What kind of accdent?" I asked "We'll get into that later" she stated "right now I want you to rest and I'll be back tommorrow to talk, ok?" "Sure" I said as she left the room. After she left the nurse turned to leave and I asked "What is the time and date?" "It's 8:15 Sunday night, October 9th" she said Figuring the best thing to do is sleep (even though I wasn't tired) I made myself fall asleep. My sleep was troubled by horrible, agonizing screams that prevented me from staying asleep for long. The next mornng, at about 9am I figure, a new nurse came in with breakfast for me. My stomach was growlng as she put the tray down. She simply gave me a knowing smile which helped my ambrassment subside. "Doctor's Crowly and Jones will be in shortly to see you" she informed me "Thank you" I said as I looked back at her. I caught a puzzling expresson on her face that she quickly covered up. "Why does everyone look at me like that?" I asked her "I'm sorry sir, but it's just amazing you are even alive right now, I guess we're all just in shock as to how well your doing...." "Why!" I exclamed "what happened to me?" "I should let the doctor's tell you, I must really get back to my rounds" she said, as she swiftly left the room Baffled by her response I started eating the scrambled eggs and toast that constituted the breakfast. I finshed the breakfast in short order, not knowng just how hungry I was. I then waited for the doctors, determined to get some straight answers from them when they arrved. Then, out of the blue, my ears were filled with a horrble scream and my head felt like about 1000 volts of electricity was runnng through it. Clutchng my head and covering my ears ddn't help. The nausea almost made me lose the breakfast I just fnshed. Then the howling subsided to a buzzng and my head cleared as the door to my room opened. In walked Dr. Crowly and a man assumed was Dr. Jones. My attention was glued to Dr. Jones and couldn't seem to tear my attention completely away. He was about 6'0" tall with light brown hair. "Good Morning" Dr. Crowly said "I trust you slept well" "Not bad" I said As if she knew my question about her campanion she said, "This is Dr. Jones, he was the first doctor that treated you when you arrived in the Emergency Room." At that point I asked, "Why was I brought here, what happened to me?" "I take it then your memory hasn't returned yet?" she asked "No!" I exclaimed "I want to know why everyone stares at me like I'm a sideshow freak around here" "There's no reason to get excited sir" she calmly said "that's one reason we came here ths mornng. To answer some of your questons and hopefully get some of our own answered" "Ok" I said "first queston I have is why am I here?" "Well, to be honest, your here because you are the only survivor of a plane crash at the airport the last Friday." she stated That shocked me to say the least. "When you arrived" she continued "your body was covered with burns and you actually died in the ER. If it weren't for the continued effort of Dr. Jones you wouldn't be here today, quite frankly. The crash you were involved in killed 135 people when the plane skidded of the runway and burst into flames. The amazing thing about you is your burns are almost gone and you show no signs of ever being burnt in the first place....", "Can you explain that?" she asked Too shocked to say much I could only murmur "No" "Your memory loss is probably due to the shock of the actual crash and your injuries, but since your physical injuries weren't as bad as they seemed, the only proper recourse is to deal with your memory loss. That being the case, tommorrow you'll be transfered to another hospital and gven to the care of a neurologist to determine if your memory loss is physical n nature." she stated "We'll leave you now, to let you think, and to prepare for your transfer" she sad Too shocked by the news just received, I didn't even register that they left the room until much later. The remainder of the day was a blur while I tried to comprehend. Unable to sleep that night I was sitting in my bed when the howlng in my ears returned along with the nausea (though not quite as bad as before). The door to my room opened just then to reveal Dr. Jones (in civilian clothes) carrying a duffle bag. He came over to my bed. "How are you doing" he asked quietly "Not bad" I said puzzled by his appearance here "Well," he started "you've had quite the day, hmmmm. I think it's time we had a talk......" +------------------------------------+----------------------------------------+ | "If it moves KILL IT!!
