The emcee announced Miss Kitty and her "hoe-mage" to Mr. Jimi Hendrix. Miss Kitty bounced on stage in a go-go dancer's outfit and Duncan heard the first few notes of "The Star Spangled Banner", but didn't see Rory anywhere. Suddenly she was shoved out onto the stage, tripping so as not to lose her equilibrium or the guitar, and Duncan unsuccessfully tried to stifle a huge smile as he saw her getup. Miss Kitty had provided Rory with a pair of the same boots as she was wearing, a pair of American flag shorts that barely covered the essentials and a tank top that covered even less. Someone had also taken Rory's hair out of its customary braid and fluffed it up, tying a bandanna in it. She looked daggers at Mac, but continued to play, her fingers flying on the frets nearly as fast as Miss Kitty's various clothing articles flew into the appreciative audience. Finishing the song after an interlude that truly seemed to describe the word "eternity", Rory quickly exited the stage despite Miss Kitty's efforts to include her in the applause and Duncan quickly got up to follow and made his way backstage in time to see Rory disappear behind a dressing screen and begin throwing the parts of her costume over it. As he drew closer, he could hear her mumbling, "stupid...not even *American*...mother...roll over in her grave..." "I thought it was quite the performance." Mac announced on the other side of the screen, hands in his pockets and rocking back and forth on his heels. Silence. Then Rory came out from behind the screen, fully dressed and hair back in its braid. Making sure Macleod was watching, she slowly replaced her sword in its hiding place in the coat. He opened his mouth. "Don't...say...a...word." she said flatly, pointing at him. She turned and saw Miss Kitty approaching them with the boa. "Let's just get the thing and let's go." Miss Kitty came up and deposited the boa in Duncan's hands, tickling his chin with the end. "Thank you." he said, winking. Rory coughed as a loose feather wafted past her nose. Miss Kitty looked at her. "You know," she said thoughtfully, "you could have a real career here." "Thanks." Rory responded icily as she pulled at Mac's arm. "I'll keep that in mind." She pulled Mac towards the door. As they exited, Miss Kitty called, "Let me know if you ever change your mind." "When *hell* freezes over." Rory muttered as the door slammed shut. Marching ahead of Mac, she jumped in the car and slid down in her seat, arms crossed. As he got in, she looked at him. "You are *never* to tell *anyone* about this!" she said emphatically. Duncan opened his mouth. "*Never* *tell* *anyone*." she repeated. "Sure." he agreed. , he wondered. , she thought. "I don't trust you, Macleod." Mac ignored that comment, he was feeling too good. "What's next on the list?"
