Inside the dressing room chaos reigned. Bright lights, loud music, bits of costumes laid everywhere and various body parts on display all contributed to the feeling that Baachus had been here earlier and had run amuck. Joey had to shout to make himself heard. "Ladies! This is Duncan Macleod and his...friend. They need a couple minutes of your time." He slunk off. None of the dancers moved for a moment, then a woman dressed in cowboy boots, a fringed denim skirt, a cowboy hat, six-shooters and a vest that came nowhere *near* covering what it needed to sauntered up. Across the room, she had a youthful appearance, but up close they could see how she was trying to use makeup to hold back the march of the years. "Hi," she purred at Duncan, ignoring Rory completely. "I'm Miss Kitty." Duncan smiled back. "Hmpf." Rory muttered, "More like Miss --." Her comment was cut off as Duncan stepped back and stomped on Rory's foot, still smiling genially and extending a hand to the aforementioned Miss Kitty. "Ow!" Rory hissed at him as someone called to Miss Kitty, distracting her, "Thanks a lot, Macleod. I wasn't even going to *mention* the obvious cat synonyms available!" Miss Kitty turned back to them. "Now, what can I help you with, sugar?" Duncan explained what they were looking for and Miss Kitty surprised them by saying she *did* have a pink feather boa. "Why sure, honey," she purred to Duncan again, "I use it in my first number. This--" she indicated her costume, "is for the number I just finished--it's a tribute to 'Gunsmoke'-- and my next number is a Jimi Hendrix tribute complete with live guitarist." "Great." Rory said flatly. "Can we borrow it?" By now, the other dancers were involved in watching the conversation and the only noise in the dressing room was the cheering of the customers out on the floor and the dancers' music. Miss Kitty looked behind Duncan and gazed at Rory as if the Irish Immortal had just asked her to work on Pat Buchanan's presidential campaign. "Well, I don't know, dear, what guarantee do I have that you'll return it?" "Because I'm trustworthy, brave, and kind to small animals." Rory replied. Miss Kitty sniffed delicately. "I don't think so, sugar." She seemed to enjoy Rory's eyes narrowing at being called "sugar". , Rory thought. "I mean, your friend's real cute," the stripper continued, "but I just can't let you waltz out of here with my boa." Duncan and Rory looked at each other. Just then, another dancer who had been on the payphone the whole time, called to Miss Kitty. "Kitty," she shrieked as both Mac and Rory winced and waited for glass to shatter. "That was your guitarist -- can't make it tonight." "Dammit!" Miss Kitty cursed, "What am I gonna do now?" A thought suddenly occurred to Duncan. Grabbing Rory, he pushed her in front of him. "She plays guitar!" he announced brightly. "Macleod!" she protested as Miss Kitty obviously upped her previous estimation of Rory. "Your boa for Rory's playing." Duncan bargained. "You know the song, girl?" "Of *course* I know it," Rory snapped, "but I'm not--" "Deal." she said to Duncan and they shook hands. Rory looked furiously at Macleod. "One thing's for sure, girl." Miss Kitty said, looking Rory up and down. "And what might *that* be?" "You can't play in those clothes." Rory's "why not" was lost as Miss Kitty grabbed her arm and hustled her towards the back. "I'm gonna GET you for this, Macleod!" she yelled. Duncan grinned and waggled his fingers. "See you on stage."
