After looking to Duncan to make sure there wasn't an immortal on the other side, she went to the door and asked, "Who is it?" "Joe Dawson. May I come in?" In spite of himself, Duncan smiled. The Watcher was beginning to grow on him. He nodded and Tessa opened the door. Ritchie nearly growled in disap- proval, but if Mac let him in, he'd have to be polite unless provoked. Dawson walked in in his usual relaxed manner. After exchanging pleas- antries with Tessa and ignoring Ritchies tough-guy scowls, he approached the couch where Duncan was sittting setting up a chess board. "MacLeod, can we talk shop?" "That depends on what you want to talk about." "Does the name Eleni Kyriakos mean anything to you?" "If you're asking you know it does." "So it's true she's in town?" "If she was, maybe she wouldn't want you to know about it." The refusal was amiable but definite. "Could you at least ask her if she'd talk with me? If she says no, it's her decision, not yours." Duncan took the rebuke in stride. "Touche. If she wants to talk to you, I'll send her by the shop before she leaves." Joe grinned, knowing what a huge victory he'd just won."Thanks. Good evening to you then." Tessa showed him out and then came back to the couch where Duncan was pondering a chess move. "Duncan?" "Hmmm?"Without taking his eyes off the board, he held out his hand, which she drapped over her shoulder as she snuggled close to him. "Who's Eleni Kyriakos?" "A friend." He casually moved his white knight and turned the board so he could play black. "The kind of friend Joe Dawson would be interested in?" "Obviously...you just heard him ask about her." "The lady you left with last night?" His eyes met hers in a "where are you going with this?" gaze. "Why?" Tessa usually didn't like to talk about the Game and shuddered every time she saw him feel the Pulse of another immortal. Why was she so curious now? "maybe you should invite your friend over for dinner. I'd like to meet her." "She wasn't *that* kind of friend, love." "That's not the point. her immortality is no excuse for not extending hospitality to an old friend." Duncan smiled. "Okay. I'll invite her over for Thursday night." "That will be fine." Ritchie's ears were burning. Immortals scared him to death but he was absolutely fascinated. "We're having an immortal over for dinner?" Duncan gave him an astonishingly parental look."Ritchie, she's not a side show, she's a person." "Sure Mac, I know. But it's still interseting. How old is she." "Physically or chronologically?" "Both." "She was born in the early eighth century. Physically, she's about your age, maybe a little older. It's kind of rude to ask, so I'm not quit sure." "Wow!" Tessa didn't like where this was going."And is she anything like Amanda?" Duncan laughed so hard it nearly hurt."You couldn't find two more different women. Amanda's a creature of convenience. Eleni's spent most of her life in nunneries studying. She speaks 25 languages that i know of, and would qualify for a PhD in at least a dozen subjects." Ritchie was disappointed." A brain, huh?" "Well, yes...but she's also a composer, a poet, and plays the guitar, and can talk about anything from baseball to ballet. Oh well, you'll see what I mean Thursday." "So what does she look like?" Ritchie couldn't help but be intrigued by a woman that got reviews like this from Duncan. "Oh, she's about four-nine, built sort of like a little teddy bear with long, dark brown hair that has that redish sort of glow to it, huge coffee colored eyes, and perfect skin, of course..." Duncan felt Tessa sit up straight and realized with a shock he needed to shut up. "Perfect skin, of course...." she muttered. "Tessa, I told you she's not that kind of friend."
