Mac was leaving a gourmet meal half eaten on his plate and Tessa was showing of worry that she was just as obviously trying to hide. Duncan wordlessly donned his favortite black jacket and looked at his watch impatiently. "Six thirty already??" Then he suddenly got that weird headache look on his face and crossed immedi- ately to the window. Smiling as though the world had been lifted off his shoulders he swiveled back towards the door giving Tessa a carefree kiss off his fingertips and Ritchie the usual "Take care of her while I'm gone" nod. Duncan bolted down the stairs to meet his visitor and scooped up her hobbity little frame in his powerful arms.... "*ELENI!!!!*" receiving a "put me down" glare, he did so. "What do U want, Duncan???" Duncan literally winced. "Do I need a reason to call an old friend??" "Yes, when U haven't spoken to her in 50 or so years...besides, U always want *something*, so can we just skip the half-hearted flirtation and con-artistry this time?" She swept her burnt almond hair out of her face in an obviously hostile ges- ture, leaving Duncan utterly bewildered as to why she was acting like he'd betrayed her in some way. "Eleni??" "Don't call me that....I haven't been called that for over a century..." Duncan thought, "Except by me because I told U it sounded prettier that Hel- len and suited U better..." Duncan followed Eleni's expressive coffee eyes up to the window where Tessa was watching them. It had never occured to him that Eleni was in love with him until he saw the embarrased way she held her shoulders. "Eleni, I...." she cut him off with a caustic whisper. "Just tell me what U want, Highlander." Sighing and deciding to deal with Eleni after Natalie was taken care of, he outlined his bizzare encounter with the suicidal young girl. "13??? and a female???? That hasn't happened since Sofia Albreski in Charlemagne's day..." "Yes, I know....Amanda said Sofia stayed with Rebecca for awhile..." Another flash of her eyes told Duncan that mentioning Amanda, his now-and- then-merci-bien, was *not* going to win him and baklava. "so what do U want me to do about her, Duncan?? Show her that if a dwarf can survive as an immortal, so can she???" "No, I want U to train her...and I have *NEVER* called U a dwarf, not even when the word was considered polite" In her native Greek, she hissed "U didn't have to... I always knew how U felt." "O did U??? How was that???" "U've *NEVER* come to me--U whistle for me like a puppy & I come running..." Gently taking her in his arms and looking up at the window swiftly to signal Tessa to back off, he began slowly "Look this is a conversation we should have had 75,150, 200 years ago....I'm sorry I've hurt U but we've got to help this child right now or she'll go somewhere else. just talk to her, please." Hiding her face in her hands she nodded. "Where is she???" "Waiting for me at Wharf 7." "Let's go." End of Ch 2 =========================================================================
