The Kurgan circled, his sword a shimmering band of destruction in the light of the warehouse. The fall from the roof had not seemed to effect him at all, while Connor felt exhausted. His katana, usually nimble in hands, now felt like the Claymores he grew up with in Scotland. Then, Connor noticed the dilation of the Kurgan's pupils. ***** A flash of light, and the leap was complete. Sam Beckett had done it again. He was now...where? He stood, sword in hand, facing a smaller man also holding a sword. His body felt magnificent, and he reveled in the raw power. Until the pain hit him. The smaller man had slashed him deeply across the abdomen. ***** Connor did not know what caused the split second of hesitation: he only knew had had to take advantage of it. He slashed across the stomach of the Kurgan, and felt the rush of adrenaline as the realization struck him: I will win. He lifted the katana to deal the final blow of the Game.... ***** Never had Sam felt such pain. Then he saw it. A flash of light. For but a moment, Sam knew only that he had done whatever needed to be done on this leap.
