Searching mouths, meeting then parting to explore the mysteries of love-perfumed flesh. Feelings of blinding passion and utter contentment. The vision shifting to a vast green field where a tawny haired man holds aloft a golden sword, yelling, pursuing his prey. The sensation of running, then plummeting down, down... Screaming, Devon thrashed about in the bed, tangling herself in the crisp, white sheets. Almost instantly, warm arms encircled her, a gentle hand stroked her hair, and soft words soothed her. Her cries faded to broken whimpers and she burrowed deeper into the strength that surrounded her. Soon, Devon drifted back into slumber. Duncan remained on the bed with Devon enfolded in his embrace. He had to get her away from the city- it would not take long for the police to trace Youngblood's death to her. But he could not leave with her in this condition. It had been four hours since the debacle at the party and Devon did not appear any closer to regaining conciousness. He could only hope that she would awake soon, so he could get her on a plane without a hassle. Of course, Duncan also had to worry about where to go. He really needed to stay in the United States and avoid the hassles of customs, but he had not been able to reach any of his contacts in this country- except one that he had not wanted to try. After shifting Devon into a more comfortable position, Duncan reached for the phone at his bedside and punched in his calling card. Then he dialed a New York number. After several rings, a groggy female voice answered. "Hello?" "Amanda, it's Duncan. I'm sorry if I woke you." "Duncan? What time is it?" "About three am your time." "Good lord, Duncan! What on earth do you want? "A place to stay for a few days- it's rather an emergency." A pause, then, "Of course, love. To what do I owe the honor of this...diversion?" Duncan could not help but smile at her choice of words. "I'd prefer to explain once I get there. Oh, and Amanda, I will be bringing a guest." All traces of fatigue left Amanda's voice. "A guest? Who?" "I will call when I reach the airport tomorrow. Goodbye, Amanda." "Duncan, wait! I need to know! Is it..." But Duncan had already replaced the receiver. Amanda would not be pleased when he arrived with Devon, but that could not be helped. She would not refuse to assist them- at least, he hoped not. Turning off the lamp, Duncan pressed a kiss against Devon's heated forehead and grimaced at the unsettling response deep within in his body. Maybe seeing Amanda would be just what he needed to distract him from the lovely woman filling his arms. Somehow though, Duncan thought before falling asleep, he doubted it.
