A split-second later he was doubled over in pain, his hands clutching his head in desperation. As soon as it began, however, the pain stopped, and David looked up to see a pair of boots march in from his kitchen. As he rose to his feet groggily he surveyed his uninvited guest. The black Doc Martins gave way to jet black jeans supported by an ornately worked belt and buckle, topped with a black turtleneck. A dark olive trenchcoat completed the wardrobe. The wearer of the ensemble bore light celtic features topped by a mop of dirty-blonde hair which defied most laws of physics in its present spiked about form. "Greetings, David," the immortal began, his hazel eyes flashing as he measured the youngest of the immortal Macleods. "Who the hell are you, and why are you in my house?" retorted David, his eyes straying towards the den, where his sword rested upon the wall rack. "I am death," replied the ominous immortal with a flourish, "I am here to warn you I am near, and for you to deliver a message to MacKenzie. Oh," he added, "don't worry about going for your sword. You're more valuable to me alive for now. After I take MacKenzie's head and see what he's taught you, though...." he paused thoughfully, "well, we'll see then." "Don't be too sure of it, whatever your name is" returned Macleod steadily, wanting the opportunity to take this one on himself. After all, MacKenzie said he was finished his training... "Cole, Gabriel Cole, at your service," he announced with a sweep of his trench tails and a slight bowing motion. "Well, Gabriel," probed David as he slowly began to walk around the room, edging towards the den, "what can I do for you?" As Cole reached into his jacket, Dave almost bolted for the sword rack, but just barely kept himself in check. The elder opponent calmly pulled a small package wrapped in manila paper from his coat. "Easy, David," he smiled coldly, "you haven't much experience in this sort of thing, do you? Now, I want you to tell MacKenzie that I have returned to finish our battle. Give him this package as well, he'll know what it means. I'll be waiting for him, tomorrow night at the stroke of midnight, inside the Hedgerow Theater." Cole slowly lowered the item to the coffee table at his knee, then began to step towards the door. Macleod watched his every step intently, not saying a word as the challenger left his home. He heard the start of a car engine outside, and then Cole shouted for his attention. He approached the door warily, this time with sword in hand. "Ah, I forgot to mention, Macleod, that, unless Brian shows up, your little girlfriend Lisa will die as well, and I'll still come after him anyway!!" With that statement, he stomped on the accelerator and jumped down the deserted avenue. Macleod leaned back against the wall heavily, the damp chill of dawn permeating his soul... _____________________________________________________________________________ Ok, I know that one was just a quickie, but I figured this was a good place to break for the moment before the next big scene... Until then, keep the comments coming!!!
